What a surprise! We were meeting a few people for a business meeting with meatballs and we're given directions to Martino's in Hackensack. I always check out the "restaurant" that I'm being sent to, but all I could find was Martino's Grocery. So, to Hackensack we went. We pulled up to a small storefront surrounded by houses and... well, we all thought it looked like a scene right out of the Sopranos. When we walked in our thoughts were compounded by all the pictures of the Sopranos hanging on the walls. The place looks frozen in time, like it's right out of my memory as kid. A little dingy, but very clean. Glass cases, steam table and behind the counter there were 3 women...3 generations of Martinos. There's the staples like meatballs, sausage and peppers and chicken Parm, but the 3 different types of fish and Shrimp Fra Diavolo...all delicious and at fantastic prices! Seriously, unless you are a Sopranos fan this is not a destination place, but if I were you're within 2-3 miles of Martino's and are hungry, you'd be doing yourself a favor by stopping by...oh yeah, save room for the filled to order canolis...
