I went in today with Christmas gifts that didnāt fit my daughter. I had a gift receipt for all but 3 items, that her grandmother got her. I asked if I could get a gift card in the amount of the return so I could shop another time for her things. I was told NO, that I would have to exchange right then and there. She said āItās Childrenās Place policyā. Also it had to be the entire amount. I was annoyed because my son was waiting in the car and I really didnāt have the time to shop. Majority of what my daughter wanted was out of stock in her size. I took her to the fitting room, by the time we made our way to the front it had been about a half hour or so. The cashier then goes to process my return and at the very end said we had to split the transaction. The computer wouldnāt process the items with and without the gift receipt together. At that point I asked for my stuff back and said Iād just go to another location. I wasted enough time there. I left and then called customer service who told me she was INCORRECT. She was to issue me return merchandise receipt that could be used in any store. It canāt be used online. The customer service rep said I did NOT have to exchange the items at the time of the return. I figured the employee was wrong, I never heard of that return policy in my life. She was rude and incorrect, they need to retrain their staff at that location. I thought maybe the store was closed but didn't get locked...I walked in with no other customers in the store, the employees were no where to be found. I called the store three times and then I heard the employees talking but not answering the phones. After 10 minutes of this, they finally acknowledged me. I wanted to return/exchange some school (never worn with tags) uniforms but couldn't figure out which of my many receipts they were one. I have a rewards account too but they manager said since I didn't have my receipt. She did not offer any other solutions. I totally understand no receipt but surely there is a way to find what she needed. Her lack of any sort of interest in helping me really was frustrating. I finally asked if there was no way she could do any exchange and only then she acknowledged that she could. Other stores in town seem let their selection sell out without replenishing after school starts. So for that aspect of the store, Iām grateful. The staff on the other hand is in desperate need of customer service training. As someone who works retail myself, I know the importance of friendly customer service. They are inattentive and never ask if you need help with anything. I was in there yesterday and as I was purchasing my items, I showed the associate a coupon I had on my phone. She very curtly said to me that my coupon would be on my rewards account and she didnāt need it from my phone. I was taken aback by her mannerisms because I know that this is not the way to behave in retail. I know from personal experience that itās hard to work in retail, but putting on a friendly face does make all the difference...
