RACIAL PROFILING!!! I stopped inside this convenient store for juice before I continued my bike ride to the beach…I wasn’t aware they served food so I decided to place an order with the lady behind the counter.
I asked for a Gyro and her response was, “Food Stamps don’t pay for hot sandwiches!” I was absolutely puzzled by her comment. I didn’t ask about food stamps, I didn’t pull out a food stamp card, and I didn’t inquire about the price of food…I simply ordered a sandwich.
I am a black female physician with multiple degrees and in no financial strain. Even throughout the pandemic I have been blessed enough to maintain financial stability. So why she automatically assumed I would be pulling out a food stamp card is beyond me….maybe my “Blackness” equaled “Brokeness” in her mind.
Either way I urge all people of color and those who support the eradication of racial profiling and discrimination, to find another convenient store to spend their hard earned money in.
People like this won’t change until you hit them where it hurts! Their pockets!
