I believe stars represent the value of the whole experience including service and food. We have decided for 2 stars as we did not like the food much or the price/quality ratio, but we absolutely loved the service. Service alone however, won't make us come back. In terms of details about our experience, please read below.
Service: we were greeted kindly by a young lady at the entrance whom also checked our temperature to make sure everyone at the restaurant was not sick. This made me feel better 100%. Our waiter Alfonso was extremely nice and kind and even brought us some hand wipes at the beginning and end of our meal. These were very welcome both because our hands were messy and to help with the virus situation. Very attentive and genuine.
Drinks: our cocktails were delicious in terms of flavor, but they were warm and we had to get ice on the side for them.
Food: we ordered a chupe de camarones (shrimp chowder soup) and a platter to share that included a Paella-like seafood rice, a fried seafood (calamari, shrimp and yuca) dish, and two ceviches (friend and classic). This is where the big issue was. The soup tasted like just seafood and not shrimps as it should. It was also not chowder like and was liquidy. The seafood rice was good (just not amazing), the fried seafood was just whatever and not hot and/or crunchy (as fried seafood should be) and lastly the ceviches. The classic was an absolute disaster to say the least (supposed to be their best thing). Tasted like chunks of plastic with no fish or ceviche flavor as you know it. We in fact left half of it and didn't even want to take it home. The fried ceviche is the only thing we ate that thought was really really good and memorable.
Price: for 3 drinks, the soup, and the platter, we paid a ridiculous amount of $148. Yes, you read that right. While we knew the prices of the drink and soup, we believe the server and/or restaurant could've done a better job at informing us about the price of the shared platter which was an outstanding $65. This platter included 4 plates and if you do the math it comes to $16 a plate, the same price you would have paid as getting them individually. We definitely feel we were baited onto this as ANY other restaurant will charge you less per plate in total for a platter as portions are smaller. Besides that, an 18% (not tip) but mandatory gratuity charged is added to your bill regardless of group size or solo eating. Yes, this was stated but still find it ridiculous but that's just our opinion. We don't tip more than 12% period. After all, tip is supposed to come from our perspective of service and not the restaurant's. I don't see why we have to help the restaurant pay for their employees salary.
Overall the food was not stellar and would not come back, much less for $75 per person.
Recommendation: go to Aromas del Peru on calle ocho and you will be delighted with service and FOOD most importantly. We have had the same dishes there for 10 years and wow what a difference. Not to mention you spend $25-$35 per person. We just wanted to try something new and trusted past reviewers. But maybe these have never...
Read moreI was travelling in the Hallandale area from February 1st - 12th and decided to visit the Dr. Limon location on Feb 3rd. Everything was perfect, as it always was during my previous visits at this restaurant. I decided to return to the Hallandale location for another meal on Feb 11th before leaving Florida.
When the Ceviche arrived, it was visibly raw and the pieces were stringy. I advised the waiter who took the plate back to the kitchen and brought a new one. The second plate of Ceviche was equally see-through, stringy and tasted odd. I advised the waiter that I did not want to risk getting sick as I am travelling the next day and he laughed in my face saying Ceviche is always like this. He brought the manager and I explained the situation, that I've had the same plate at multiple of your locations several times and this is the first time it looks or tastes that way. She advised that she would remove it off the bill, which was fine by me.
The 1 star is due to fraudulent check that arrived and how the manager reacted afterwords. The manager removed the Ceviche off the bill, however she added 18% gratuity on our party of TWO PEOPLE. I spoke to the manager and explained very calmly that we are only two people and I read on the menu that gratuity is added for parties of 5-6+ not for 2 people and I came here a week ago and was not charged gratuity on the party for 3 people. The manager told me that it's a new policy established with the City of Hallandale and I must pay the gratuity. I simply gave her a $100 bill on the check of $75 (including 18% tip) and advised her I was going to look into this new policy with my lawyer. She then started yelling at me, making a scene with her staff and clients in the restaurant. She proceed with printing a new bill removing all gratuity and asked me to just pay for the food. I paid the food and told her this is the only bad experience I've ever had at Dr. Limon's locations and she told me that "Dr. Limon doesn't need customers like you". I'm not sure what I did wrong except avoid eating raw fish and then asked why 18% gratuity was added to the party of 2, when I was going to give gratuity regardless.
Needless to say, the service at this location is completely unacceptable and I would strongly advise to avoid...
Read moreYou have to come here!! I have been following Dr. Limon on Instagram for some time now and have been dying to try them out. I brought my mom here on a Saturday night, the music was great, we were immediately greeted upon entry, and I'm telling you as soon as we sat down, without delay we were greeted by our amazing server Sebastian who brought us toasted corn and a small cup of Leche de tigre(my personal favorite Ceviche) to sample. The service here is IMPECCABLE. The servers and bussers are friendly, they anticipate your needs. There is not a moment where you are thinking to yourself, where is my server or I need this, I need that. My mom and I both ordered Passionfruit juice, which was not too sweet and a little sour. One thing that did surprise me a little is that although the drinks were served cold they didn't have any ice in them. I ordered the grilled octopus which had chimichurri on it I believe, it was served with potato wedges and white corn, I also ordered some Leche de Tigre. My mom ordered the Lomo Saltado. The food was sooooo good. It was absolutely delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Everything is so flavorful and it came out quick and hit. The ceviche was fresh and tender and just melts in your mouth. As we finished our meals, or most of it, we asked Sebastian for some boxes, he whisked away our plates and took them to the back to pack them himself! I mean talk about service. There was never a dirty pate in front of us for more than a minute or 2. The bussers quickly followed behind picking up anything leftover. We also ordered a chocolate cake and he did tell us the name and I can't quite remember but I do remember it tasted heavenly. It was soft and moist and again, not too sweet, it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Again table was cleared with a swiftness and I asked for the check. Sebastian bid us a good night and believe me, I will be...
