Burning Hearts Tattoo Co. — Local services in Hamden

Someone had referred me to Burning Hearts for this peircing. I was incredibly hopeful that I was making the best decision to see Nicholas for a piercing after reading many good reviews. He was professional and very knowledgeable. However my experience is nothing like all the other reviews I've read that made me confident in seeing him. When you book your appointment with a deposit the fine print let's you know that if you are more than 5 minutes late you forfeit your appointment. I respect that rule and the professional's time. Although that doesn't appear to be reciprocated to the customer. I showed up 15 minutes early, provided my license, signed a waiver, and choose jewelry all before my appointment time. I first felt uncomfortable when it came to selecting jewelry. I was asked to pick one in a display case to then realize that it was over 500 dollars. I had laughed because I thought Nicholas was making a joke. And he looked at me so seriously and couldn't even crack a smile for the fact that I had no idea. I did not read anything about the high expense of the jewelry they provide. I was made to feel pretty uncomfortable to not know this. I had then chosen the most basic jewelry and paid for it and the service before it was performed. At that point you can also provide a tip, which I did...but it was hard to know what to tip when I was already uncomfortable and the service didn't happen yet. I then sat in a room for 30 minutes while the equipment was being sterilized. I understand they do this when you are there and have you initial the sterilization strip as a comforting process of knowing they take sterilization very seriously. Which is great. But I was left alone in a room during this time only feeling more anxious. When the sterilization was done and Nicholas came into the room I had been debating walking out without the service. His demeanor was very transactional. I felt like a number, not a valued customer. Everything he said sounded very robotic and quick. I did not receive the personable experience that I've read with so many other reviews. It made it very hard for me to relax. Truthfully if he had smiled even just once, I think it would have made a drastically better experience. I completely understand we all can have bad days. He may have had something personal going on and I understand that. But I also would have appreciated even having the appointment rescheduled, if that was the case, so I could have a more pleasant experience that would make me want to come back and refer someone else. I appreciate the time he took to provide the service. I'm hopeful his expertise and explanation for after care will leave my piercing in...

I have never seen a more sterile environment… Very clean, this place was immaculate…

2 ear piercings were EXTREMELY expensive .The price listed was totally misleading…The price was $60 for two ears listed on website. When I called we were told jewelry was separate… which I understood. BUT there’s a CATCH!! the earring POST and the GEM are sold as two separate pieces and prices… making the jewelry itself come to $150 in addition… PLUS a $10 fee for after care directions and solution which should have been included for the price or at least be given the option of whether we wanted to purchase the solution.…I was totally blindsided…Although the piercer Nicholas was extremely thorough and Knowledgeable and made the experience comfortable… I felt this was a bait and switch tactic with the earrings themselves… I did not see any prices on the website or in the shop for the jewelry so I did not even think it would HELP be even close to that…If the prices were there I never found them. I suppose we could have not gone through but my son was already too excited to turn back and I did not want to disappoint him…

🙁👎🏻Extremely disappointed in the hidden fees and kept telling us to refer to the website which wasn’t helpful. In ADDITION we have to go back in 6 weeks to get posts removed and Replaced with shorter ones for an additional $10 plus additional cost for the shorter posts..Like another 60 bucks

Years ago I had my first few tattoos done by Wes elsewhere and then I moved out of state. I want to start by saying I’m sure he is just as wonderful as he was then, especially because he owns this place now. I decided to get my first piercing in 7 or so years and chose this shop because I trusted that Wes would have only the best there. I was BLOWN AWAY by how amazing my experience was. I arrived early and was greeted upon arrival letting me know I would be seen shortly. Nicholas came out and started chatting with me almost immediately and answered the first few questions I had, as I was super nervous. It turned out they had a guest piercer working as well, and while I was initially nervous because I had expected Nicholas, they both chatted with me and explained everything and answered all my questions. I was ridiculously impressed with how they treated me as I was the only thing that mattered — having patience, giving me advice based on personal experiences, letting take my time, reassuring me, etc. The professionalism and genuine caring in this place meant more than anything to me. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! I also want to say that years on YEARS ago I had asked to get pierced elsewhere and Nicholas was the piercer there and he had turned me down bc he knew it would reject.
