Oliver’s Toy Chest — Local services in Hamilton

We stopped in while we were in town for our anniversary looking for small places to buy vintage stuff,and toys that remind us of our child hood. We thought this place would have promise. We walked in and looked around saw a few things we wanted to buy. Unfortunately we decided not to as the guy couldn't be bothered to interact with us, or acknowledge our existence in his shop. I had hoped that maybe he had just missed the fact we walked in and didn't see us looking around and talking about what we were gonna buy so we went up to the counter and in front of him I said oh that picture is awesome. It gave off garbage pail kids vibes. He looked away and picked up his phone and made a call. At that point it seemed as though we were not welcomed. I mean honestly the lack of acknowledgement up to that point was pretty clear lol. that drove home the point that we were not going to be able to purchase anything. I mean it would have been rude of us as the customer to interrupt his phone call and ask...

A truly special place run by truly special people. My 10 yr old son has a deep love for vintage toys. Every time we pass by, he insists on stopping in, because he says your shop always has something special. He’s even entered and won a few of your giveaways, which absolutely made his day!

Earlier this year, he saved up money to buy a 1960s toy online that he really wanted. My son visited Oliver's toy Chess recently, and the owner gifted him a different, and better version of that same 1960s toy .. completely unprompted and free of charge. AND in perfect condition!! My son has carried the toy around for weeks. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture, and it meant the world to my son.

I have been to this toy store several times and have had a very excellent experience each and every time. I have sold things to them and got a very very fair price and I have also purchased things from them which I thought were also at exceptionally good prices. The owners of the store are super nice people and do a very great job in my opinion. I also love the story behind why they opened the business in the first place and I think it is a wonderful way to honor their late son. I know their son is smiling down on them from heaven because he is so proud of what they have done . I will definitely be back!!! *Edited to add that they do cool stuff like raffles and I bought a ticket just to support the cause and ended up winning a Mario themed Nintendo switch and many other awesome items along with it.
