A Disheartening and Dangerous Experience with La-Z-Boy - Buyer Beware! I am writing this review from a place of extreme physical pain and profound emotional disappointment. I wish I didn't have to, but I feel a moral obligation to warn others about a product that has not only failed me but has actively put my health at risk. My family and I visited the La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings & Décor in Mechanicsburg, PA, with a very specific and critical need. My mother had recently undergone knee surgery, and I was about to have my own lower back surgery (L4-5) on September 11, 2025. We were looking for the safest, most supportive recliner on the market a chair where I could spend my recovery, as my doctors advised me to stay off my bed. The staff at the store, who were kind and helpful, recommended a specific recliner as "the best" option for our needs. We were told it was the perfect chair for someone with mobility issues and a recovering back. We paid $2,649.98 (original list price over $3,100) on August 3, 2025, for what we believed was a premium, safe, and reliable piece of medical-grade furniture. The sales ticket number is 316-45518, and the store address is 6390 Cartisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050. The delivery and installation went smoothly, with the team ensuring everything was set up carefully. But the problem isn't the staff or the service; it's the product itself. Just days after my back surgery, while using the recliner as intended, I tripped and fell backwards twice. The chair failed to support me and became a hazard. The immediate consequence of these falls was devastating: my post-surgery pain, which was already significant, spiked to a 10/10. I had to contact my doctor immediately, who increased my medication and scheduled an urgent follow-up appointment. This is more than a quality control issue; this is a safety hazard. This chair is absolutely NOT suitable for anyone with a back, knee, or any kind of mobility issue. It is a dangerous piece of furniture that should not be marketed to or recommended for individuals in recovery. My biggest fear is that this dangerous chair will be returned, refurbished, and sold to another unsuspecting person who needs it for medical reasons. This is why I won't return it; I wouldn't wish this pain and betrayal on anyone else. This chair is a liability and should be removed from the market entirely, or better yet, sent to a landfill so it can't harm anyone else. La-Z-Boy is a massive company with a reputation built on comfort and quality. They need to address the safety standards of their products immediately. My physical and emotional well-being has been severely compromised, and I deeply regret my decision to put my trust in this company. I am now looking at alternative options like the Titan Otamic 3D LE Zero Gravity Luxury Massage Chair from Sam's Club, because I no longer trust La-Z-Boy to stand by their products or their customers' safety. Read moreI was told my chair was in stock, would be delivered the next day. Blake told me, "You will receive a call by 5pm today to let you know the delivery time for tomorrow." No call came, so I called Customer service. They were cold and uncaring when they told me my chair was never put on the truck. Keep in mind I had cleared my schedule to await delivery the next day. Shelby was especially rude and unapologetic. She first told me they had no control over deliveries, then later she mistakenly said that she made the delivery schedule. Cold and unapologetic, she could have cared less I thought my chair would arrive the next day, when she knew it was not. No apologies, just excuses. They really do not care what they tell people or the fact people are waiting and depending upon them. Shelby had trouble answering who her boss was, took several rounds of questioning to get a first name out of her. I did not bother calling the store manager because Shelby at customer service gave the impression that this is business as usual AND that no one understands how or when deliveries are made. Their standard practice is not really caring when people receive deliveries they paid $100 to have delivered. Yes I paid $100 for Shelby's excuses and snotty dismissive tone. Once the store in Mechanicsburg, PA on the Carlisle Pike has your money, they really do not care when your stuff is delivered. FYI if you are told your item is "in stock" that means it is sitting in a warehouse in New Jersey. I purchased my chair at 11 am and between then and 5pm, Shelby claims it was impossible to adjust the delivery schedule for the next day, this is after Blake her sales supervisor told me, it would be no problem to deliver the next day. Just to clarify I did not ask for next day delivery, Blake said it was going to happen.
