Can you sleep well in this mattress, is it comfortable? Yes.
Is it worth it? Let me tell you my experience and you decide.
I used to be a mattress salesperson, so this is not just idle prattle. I was in a couple of mattress stores before working with Sleep Number. I wanted to work with them, because I liked their products and they seemed to have good service.
While working with them, I realized that not al that they said was exactly right. For starters, they kept talking about a 15 year warranty. While it's true they have that, 14 years of that warranty is prorated.
There's a BIG difference between prorated and non-prorated warranty. Non-prorated means that your product will keep it's value for as long as the warranty lasts. If you have a 2K mattress, with a 10 year warranty, the mattress will still be worth 2K after a decade. Prorated means the product value goes down with time. You may start with a 2k mattress with a 15 year warranty, but in year 5, your mattress might already be worth less than 50%.
The first year I had my Sleep Number mattress I had to call several times for different problems with the mattress. They had to change the chamber (the thing inside that inflates). They had to change the cover of the mattress. They had to put a metal rod at the end of the adjustable bed because the mattress kept slipping down. Finally it was working OK. Glad that the first year is not prorated.
It hasn't been full 2 years, and the chamber is leaking air AGAIN. Plus the cover is torn where the magnets go. I called to let them know. They are already charging me $600 for the items and installation. With that amount, you can find a regular mattress that would work on an adjustable platform, like the one I have.
I only sleep on this mattress. I don't do, let's say, "strenuous activities" on it, particular at my age. I might be a little overweight, but many people are, and they assure you that shouldn't be a problem. Any other mattress company has at least a 10 year non-prorated warranty for products as expensive as these are. No company will charge 40% of a product value just two years after their mattress has failed, especially mattresses that have a price of 2k and above.
Feel free to ask me any questions. My advice is to stay away from this company. There are plenty other products that will feel as good, but will cost less, and have much...
Read moreTheresa at Sleep Number in Mechanicsburg, PA made the entire process simple and seamless. From the first contact on the phone, we went from a business transaction to a discussion amongst friends. There were no high-pressure sales tactics or gimmicks. In fact, Theresa didn’t take the easy sale, but instead encouraged us to come into the physical location to explore all of the open options to truly get the best fit. After another horrible night’s sleep on the couch, exploring the Sleep Number options had me ready to take a nap right there in the store! As someone who struggles with severe cramping and sleeps hot after a job-related back injury and military deployment, I haven’t been able to sleep comfortably in years. My only complaint is that Theresa wouldn’t let me sleep in the bed until mine arrived at the house! It’s crazy that I’ve spent more than half of my sleeping uncomfortably when this option existed. My only regret is not...
Read moreWe are currently waiting to get our new Sleep Number bed,the P5,Split King FlexFit w/attached remote. We originally ordered a P5 Queen with Integrated Base. Since Sleep Number offers a 100 day in-home trial, we discovered upon sleeping on this, I needed the bed that could raise my head and legs while my partner did not. So we did the exchange with lots of help from this store. I won't go into details, but Will and Chuck were very helpful. So today we made a trip to buy new sheets and a mattress protector. Chuck is very knowledgeable in Sleep Number's products so he brought samples of each product for comparison. He is a good "sleep" expert.. very friendly and attentive to our needs. His expertise was very valuable to us in making...
