I've been going to Jack's for many years and today, I believe, is my first mildly negative experience. Jack's is right between Kroger and Meijer, but the reason I go here when I can is because of fast service and friendly people. Today was lacking a bit on the friendly factor and a bit on the fast factor, too. It was around noon, so there was a little rush. I picked what appeared to be the shortest checkout line. Well, the reason this line was shorter was because someone was paying with a check and seemed to have some difficulty. Perhaps the cashier was understandably a little stressed as the reception was not as jovial as I am used to. That's fine. I just picked up $5.06 worth of food and wanted to be in and out. I don't like dealing with coins esp. since I was walking and I don't like dealing with checks as checks are slow, so I pay with my Wells Fargo AmEx credit card. I was told "We don't accept this here." I kindly replied, "It worked fine last week, could you please run it just to try." The response was, "No, we don't take this!" I said, "It's always worked fine. Did you guys change your policy?" At that point another person came out, I'm guessing he was a manager. He was friendly and explained that credit cards result in fees for the store and that the fees get passed to the customer. He said that they could take the card, but they wanted me to use another form of payment if I could. Meanwhile, people behind me were snickering a bit and I heard some lady remark something along the lines of, "I wonder what his credit rating is?" (My FICO is in the mid 700's if you happen to know this lady who seems concerned about credit ratings) So, I had my hands full with my card, my ID (as they usually ask), and wallet and gave another form of payment to comply.
I did the math and on a $5.06 transaction, the cashier saved the company just under 8 cents (7.59 cents) to hold things up and to mildly disgruntle a loyal customer and several others who were waiting. Perhaps it would be smarter in the future to say, "Okay, I will gladly run this card, but please bring another form of payment in the future so we can keep our prices lower."
I still love Jack's as I've had many years of great experiences and plan on being back, but I can't help but think about the fact that the nearby competition wouldn't make a fuss at checkout and if I go elsewhere I can also pick up other supplies on the same stop. Hmm...

Read moreI’ve stopped at Jack’s Fruit and Meat Market a few times, and each visit has left me thoroughly impressed with their fresh products and great selection. While it’s a smaller store, they seem to carry a little bit of everything, all priced fairly.
The Good:
✅ Top-Quality Meat – On my recent visit, I picked up five filet mignons for my family. A few days later, they grilled them up and said it was one of the best cuts of meat they’ve ever had—which says a lot considering they eat out frequently and have traveled all over the country. Kudos to the meat department!
✅ Great Selection – Despite being a smaller store, they stock fresh, high-quality items and have a wide variety of both meats and produce.
✅ Helpful Floor Staff – Employees working on the main floor have always been cordial, attentive, and willing to help answer any questions.
The Not-So-Good:
Unfriendly Cashiers – The biggest downside has been the attitude of the cashiers. They don’t seem particularly engaged, and while they aren’t rude, they lack customer service enthusiasm. They’re more interested in chatting among themselves than interacting with customers.
Final Thoughts:
Jack’s Fruit and Meat Market is a hidden gem when it comes to fresh, high-quality meats and produce. While the checkout experience could be more welcoming, the product quality and selection make it...
Read moreHave been getting my meats and dog treats for 10 years, gave this place a second chance after being ignored and then embarrassed by one of their cashiers in front of a store full of people last month. Spoke to a brown hair female Mgr, apologized up and down and said she would take care of it. Did not go back for a few weeks, have been back twice since. First time the same cashier was working and the same Mgr was there and acted like I was going to go in her lane, which I did not. Same for today, went in and picked out dog treats. As I was going to a cashier, the blonde Mgr comes running out looking and me and the cashier in the next lane, like I was going to do something. Well, my family will never buy another item from any of your stores! I will tell everyone who ever brings up your store exactly I feel! You brought back someone who will do it again, your next customer may not be as professional as me and walk away. Your cashier doesn't about your customers, their feelings, or thier money spent in...
