The house was fantastic. Location was perfect for our needs. About 10 minutes from the shops or downtown area but secluded enough that it felt very private. Several people in our group enjoyed walking around the grounds and reading all the labels for the various flowers/trees on the property. The bedrooms were comfortable and all of them have a beautiful view. The house layout is unusual with the living/dining/kitchen area in the main area of the house via the front door and then the bedrooms and full bath had their own entrances off the lanai. It was perfect for our group of older adults. We had the master bedroom and we couldn't hear when people were up getting coffee or puttering in the kitchen due to the layout. As you walk in the front door there is a set of hooks to the left with keys for each bedroom. The keychains for the keys correspond with a picture above each bedroom door do you know which key goes to which bedroom. Like the Manta Ray key matches the Manta Ray picture above the master bedroom door. Pretty easy. We have stayed in several vacation homes so here are some answers to the questions I usually have when booking. The house is equipped with a rice cooker, air fryer, blender, pots, pans, plenty of dishes, silverware, platters etc. They notify you that they only provide approximately 3 days worth of toilet paper, paper towels, luandry detergent, dishwasher tabs and trash bags which was pretty accurate. There are basic spices in the pantry and enough coffee for your first few days. There aren't many tupperware containers but there were ziplick bags, foil, and cling wrap. Basic cleaning supplies and broom/mop on site for messes. There were several beach chairs, a cooler, and floaties to use at the beach. They also supplied around 8 beach towels for the pool or to take on excursions. Evrhi also offered additional services like grocery delivery or in home messages which was nice. We booked two poolside messages for our group and the pricing was very fair ($145 per person after tax for a 60 minute message). We had some items shipped to the island prior to arrival. We chose to ship to the family but you can have items shipped to the local rental office and then pick it up from them during their business hours. The rental company was prompt to respond to any questions via text and were super accommodating when we were booking extra services. We struggled to figure out the sound system for the house and the light for the pool but between us we did figure it out. I'm sure our awesome property manager would have come over to help but it wasn't a priority for us and we did figure it out eventually! Like most homes in the area it does not have AC but we opened up all the windows/doors with the screens closed and it was extremely comfortable. Bugs/geicos are the norm on the island so keeping the kitchen clean and the screens shut is expected and easy to do. The fridge has a built in ice maker and the wine fridge was great for soda/beer. We had such a great time at the property we are already trying to schedule...
Read moreOur group of 8 stayed eight days at Hale Pomaikai Mou (5211 Kainani Pl, Koloa) in February 2025. Here are a few noteworthy pros & cons of this house:
PROS: 1) Outstanding pool and pool deck, with an integrated (“floating”) hot tub, and 3 bar stools in the pool. The pool deck was large, with both sunny & undercover areas, and comfortable seating. The hot tub controls were simple, & worked well; the hot tub can be as warm or as cool as one wants. The pool water temperature was fine, and the water was consistently clean. Underwater lights were a “cool” effect after dark. The swings outside the two back bedrooms were good for relaxing and reading. 2) The floorplan of the house was simple yet practical: a central great room opening into four bedrooms (two on each side). High ceilings lent an airy/roomy feel to the house. The kids enjoyed the bunk room, which was also useful as an overflow room for any adult with a snoring partner. Each bedroom had it's own ensuite bathroom (all with water closets); there was also a half-bath off the kitchen. The back two bedrooms opened directly onto the pool deck. 3) The house had a “new” feel to it – updated, clean, with everything in good working order (except the screen doors on one bedroom). 4) The kitchen was well-supplied (chinaware, pots, pans, blender, mixing bowls, spices, etc etc). 5) Plenty of beach towels, bath towels, paper towels, shower supplies, etc. 6) Sonos sound system. 7) Nice neighborhood (Kukuiula Resort); it was excellent for walking & running. 8) Good WiFi signal at the pool using the -EXT internet signal (this wasn't mentioned in the house guidelines). 9) The small backyard, with a firepit, was a nice bonus.
CONS: 1) The ocean was not visible from the pool deck when sitting; it was visible (a half mile away), when standing on the pool deck, via five or six “peekaboo” views. Some in our group thought the view (greenery & partial ocean view) was just fine. The (distant) golf course was visible only when standing at the west edge of the property. Whale-watching was not a realistic endeavor. 2) No DVR.
Overall, Hale Pomaikai Mou was a terrific house as evidenced by the predominance of “pros” above, especially as regarding the area that got lots of use – the pool...
Read moreAlthough we never met in person, the Elite Pacific staff were friendly and very responsive to our questions and needs, which made our stay at Lyman's Bay Hale all the better.
The very large size of the home was perfect for our group of seven... three couples and one additional adult. Having two master suites was just what our group needed. Three of the bedrooms had king beds, one had a queen bed, and one was set up with bunks for kids (which we didn't use, except for storage). The large open kitchen/dining/living room, as well as the large rec. room with TV, ping pong and pool tables, was great for games, laughs, celebrations, and cooking. One comment from the six who were downstairs was that the bathroom was small with little counter space.
The home, about two miles south of the main Kona area and across Ali'i Drive from the ocean, was centrally located to go to Kona restaurants as well as for driving to snorkeling spots and areas on the north and south ends of the island. The ocean at this spot is not easily accessible, but there are beaches walking and a short driving distance away. We missed the sound of the waves due to the passing traffic. The house is well stocked with snorkeling gear and towels, as well as other outdoor gear that we didn't use. Washing machine and dryer were much appreciated.
This review for the house would be between a 4.5 and 5.0 except that we had several concerns, most of which were addressed by the Elite Pacific staff: the freezer had iced up, so we didn't have ice (they provided a portable ice maker), a sprinkler head must have been hit by the gardener because when the sprinklers came in the very early hours, water came in through the downstairs master A/C unit (we turned the sprinkler so it wouldn't spray in), and the dishwasher was an old model that did not clean well at all. I believe all these items will be fixed. Finally, we couldn't get the electric hand mixer beaters to stay in the mixer.
I highly recommend the Lyman Bay Hale home for a family/families or a group of couples that want enough space to gather as well as space for quiet...
