This attraction is really overhyped. It's a motion simulator ride -- you're in a chair that moves and tilts a bit -- and you get to see aerial footage of the island (but not of Hawaii island FWIW). But, that's about it. The footage wasn't that amazing and was quickly repetitive. Ostensibly there was a story to the film but it was entirely lost on me -- it was just flying around and then the two characters appeared at the end. The motion part was weak -- I didn't at all "feel like I was actually flying". My expectations were higher because these sorts of experiences are routinely available at science museums or amusement parks so there's no shortage of good footage and machines. This one was just way overhyped and not worth the time spent on the experience.
[updated after the owners commented on this review] I missed mentioning the pre-show, which the owners mention below. The pre-show sets the story of the main characters and it gets the viewer ready to be interested in what happens. I discounted it in my review and opinion of the experience because it's just an animated "pre-show" -- it's not motion simulator, it's not visually or simulating flying over Hawaii, etc. It sets the mood but it's not part of the main...

Read moreWe just left the theater from the VIP experience which shows both movies…HIGHLY recommended. Such a beautiful and emotional experience, especially as residents of Kihei, Maui, one of the areas that was experiencing wildfires at the same time Lahania was lost. I spent a good portion of my youth visiting with my grandparents during their time on the west side. They both passed before the fires so though it was no longer their’s, the house they built in Lahania is now gone. To be able to see the house standing in the movie and how it is now was haunting, but I am fortunate, my families loss was minimal compared to many of our friends. The Lahania film was extremely respectful, not intrusive and it was balanced with the beauty of the west side which I so appreciated. If you are in Kona, I would recommend this as a must-do activity. The entire experience shows a true representation of the spirit of the islands. Mahalo to the creators of this and the staff they have...
