Disappointing Experience – Felt Dismissed and Disrespected
I went to Bass Pro Shops yesterday intending to purchase a $1,500 fish finder as a birthday gift for my husband and son. My daughter and I stood at the fish finder display for over ten minutes waiting for assistance while a group of five employees stood nearby chatting and made no effort to help.
When we finally got someone’s attention, I asked a few questions about the different units. Instead of helping, the employee told me I should “just get the one my husband wants.” It felt incredibly dismissive. I’m the one spending the money—I came to the store to make an informed purchase and had legitimate questions.
After deciding on a unit, the employee went to the back to retrieve it and never came back. I waited another ten minutes before asking a different employee to let him know we’d just order online. He said he’d go track him down, but no one ever followed up. After another long wait, we left.
I’ve heard great things about Bass Pro Shops, but this experience was frustrating and frankly disrespectful. Suggesting that I shouldn’t ask questions or that my husband and son “fish more than me” so they know better was offensive. Women fish too. Upon arrival I stopped at a counter and chatted with an employee, walked around to see each department and check out the aquarium and various taxidermied animals, doubled back to hit the restroom, then realized at least a couple of the guys weren't doing the usual stocking or customer assistance jobs or greeting folks like everyone else but just shadowing me talking into their headsets.
I have been a customer at the Rogers, MN Cabela's since they opened and shopped at many other Cabela's/Bass Pro locations on my travels and have never experienced this level of 'attention' before.
Considering the small format there really isn't anything here I can't get at a couple other stores within a short distance. If this location is going to treat me like a suspect for just walking around I see no...
