Summary: NEVER COME HERE!
A friend and I went to Maya’s Mexican Restaurant in Duluth MN. Upon arrive the service had already proven itself terrible, as there was quite a wait just to be seated, even though it was empty. At first my friend asked to be seated in one side of the restaurant, which more dimly lit but was promptly told there was no open seats there. When we asked for a booth, we were given a table that was half booth, half flimsy chairs that were somewhat falling apart. We asked for another table, but we were told that the other booths were dirty, and we would have to wait a bit to have them washed. Not wanting to spend more time waiting we sat down and waited another ten to fifteen minutes for our menu’s and chip basket. My order and service were somewhat satisfactory from then on, but my friend’s service got worse. She decided against her first choice after the waitress mentioned that it was served with a few things she didn’t like. After looking over the menu she decided on the chicken burrito for $12.99, as it stated it came with cheese, lettuce and other toppings. When she ordered the burrito, the waitress said she would have to pay extra for anything the menu said it have. Though the worst events happened after she got her food, as her burrito was only shredded chicken wrapped in a shell with a small bit a cheese she had to pay extra for. After eating for a few minutes, she suddenly started gagging and pulled out a small hair from her mouth. When we told the waitress about it, she said we need to show her the hair for her to say anything to the cook. When my friend said she won’t pay for the waitress to best put it got an attitude and told my friend she was being rude all day. She ended having to pay for her meal,...
Read moreThe worst $45 I ever spent. This place seemed nice enough when my husband and I walked in but as soon as we received the chips and salsa we knew we were in trouble. The salsa was watered down and served by the tablespoon full. The chips were not large and warm tortilla chips instead seemingly right out of a bag and not very tasty. The margi's were weak and mostly ice for $6.50. The side of guacamole was good just a very small portion for the price. We chose to get the combo platters to try a little of everything and unfortunately everything was bad. The beans were runny and unflavored. The beef filling in the taco, enchilada and burrito could have been anything-totally tasteless. But the absolute worst was the chili releno which I have had all over the country a hundred x. and I love. To see and taste what this restaurant did to my beloved dish was very disappointing to say the least. it was a plain chili (not stuffed) folded inside an actual egg omlete with some kind of bland cheese on top. I was speechless. It was awful. No extras for the tostada such as guac or sour cream. Not good. I would highly recommend you choose to go someplace else because this place is about as authentic as Mcdonalds and priced to gauge the Econo lodge guests who are likely forced to eat there out of convenience. All around this is the worst Mexican experience I have ever had. But I guess that is what I should expect from Mexican in Minnesota! Just too...
Read moreI was so incredibly disappointed. This was my first time trying Maya. I was planning to enjoy a cocktail while waiting for some take-out. I requested to sit at the bar and told the hostess my intent. I was told I could not sit at the bar because he was too busy. There were only 4 people at the bar. I got seated at a table to order my takeout. I asked for a crafted lime margarita made with 1800, not a pre-mix. I was told that I could only have the pre-mix margarita made with Durango and they could not make one for me. I was also told that this was what all the mexican restaurants are doing these days. The hostess apologized for the confusion. I admit, it was confusing to be looking at a cocktail menu listing a variety of margaritas and tequila brand options, but to be told I could not have one. Silly me for getting "confused" about crafting a standard lime margarita. Maybe those lights really aren't dimming (IYKYK)... Since I could not have a cockail to enjoy while reading the menu, I skipped reading it and just ordered fajitas to go. The food I received was all in one much too large tin, large enough to bake a cake in, and was all slid to one side and mixed together. The portion size was very small, the meat was overcooked, dry, and tough. Very salty. I will not return. Definitely one of the worst restaurant experiences I...
