Short version: lots of great produce; helpful staff; not the best option if you want a decent selection of Jewish foods/snacks.
First or second time in this very new - or comparatively new - Giant, and I don't know yet where everything is. I was previously in it when it was a Shoppers. Been a customer of various Giants going back to when I was a kid. This store is as one would expect of a new location, bright and clean and seem to have a lot of selection - produce looked great - until I went looking for matzo. Couldn't find it. Couldn't find pre-packaged sushi either, but I'm not sure if this store carries that and it was pretty early in the morning anyway and if it's there it might not have been ready yet.
Matzo was not in the international section, where it often is in stores. Did not see a sign for it - usually "Kosher" - on any of the aisles. Finally had to go ask a cashier to help me. She knew what matzo was (yay!) and knew that it was in "a tiny section" (her phrase; turned out to be completely accurate) at the far end of one of three aisles and she came to help me look. There were a few types of matzo, including the hard to find whole wheat, which I needed, but not the extremely common and popular egg-and-onion that I was also hoping to get.
There were a few other items in that section - most of the Kedem tea cookie flavors (other than cappuccino, which only Food Lion seems to carry for some reason), several types of gefilte fish, the requisite kosher grape juice, and a few other odds and ends but not many snacks (If there was halvah, I didn't see it) and not, as she said ahead of time, a big selection.
Although this particular Giant is in a pocket with a probably non-Jewish demographic, this is disappointing, as Giant used to be the go-to grocery store in the area where you could reliably find a good assortment of Jewish foods and snacks, Kosher or otherwise.
Have to say, though, that cashier was super friendly and helpful. I didn't catch her name, and I ended up using a self-checkout - which worked fine, happily - but it's nice to have someone like that in the store, especially early in the morning. So many thanks to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter years of visiting Giant with my family, my experience today was the worst and I will file a lawsuit. Stay away from this particular location if you can, especially as a person of color. I have always used debt cards to purchase whatever I can afford. After shopping today I decided to buy money order for our rent if the machine is not broken even though I could go to 7 Even in within the same location. A customer service rep asked me to prove that my debt cards are my debts cards even though I have entered my pin for a total of $1200 and the transaction went through without any issues. The order rep stated that someone uses their motherās debt card the other day. I am a man with 5 children with a family, so I asked why used someone else debt card as a fully employed software engineer? She said itās their policy to ask about debt transactions, which was shocking to me. This white lady automatically assumed I am using someone else cards as a black man. I showed her my cards and told her to void the transactions, I will take my business elsewhere and sue Giant for discrimination and profiling. We ask for identification for credit cards not debt cards, because she didnāt anyone else but me. Moreover, I didnāt see anywhere on the door or in writing that Giant can ask me to show them all my debts cards as prove while using my own debt card. I will make it my mission to correct this from happening to anyone else, also use all and every platform to expose such a terrible practices. Black are different, donāt assume for everyone, Giant must train their associates well. I worked as retail manager for 10 years, and I know how difficult it can be to prevent fraud but donāt assume otherwise make your policies very clear. There are other businesses I can always take my business to if your policies donāt...

I asked customer service agent for help but he didnāt guide me just he printed the list and gave me didnāt guide me, so I selected fat-free milk and eggs based on his brief advice.
At checkout, the cashier removed the items and spoke to me in a way that felt humiliatingāaccusing me of choosing incorrectly and treating me like a thief in front of other customers. I was deeply embarrassed.
I hope your team can receive better training on how to respectfully assist WIC customers. We deserve dignity and clear support.
I visited your Herndon store (2425 Centreville Rd, VA 20171) and asked for help selecting WIC-approved items before picking anything. The customer service agent his name is Abdella Nimar didnāt guide me, even though I asked clearly. Then I chose fat-free milk and eggs based on his brief advice.
At checkout, the cashier removed the items and treated me as if I were stealing, in front of other customers. I felt deeply ashamed. She said itās organic even if it says fat free. How I do know itās provided by WIC or not. I was deeply embarrassed and disappointed.
