I recently had my wedding at Hidden Creek Community Center in Kalapuya Hall. The hall itself is GORGEOUS. Lots of natural lighting. The wood walls are fantastic, and the space is so open and inviting.
Here are some of the things we had issue with that are needed for a wedding:
Tape: You cannot use any type of adhesive in the room at all for décor.
Rehearsal: A rehearsal is not included in the agreement if you decide to book your wedding with Hidden Creek (and I'm assuming any of the City of Hillsboro venue locations). They charge, for a big event like a wedding (we had about 100 people), per minimum of 4 hours of usage time (we rented it for 8 hours). We are not Hillsboro residents - we live in Beaverton, and the rental price is not cheap for that. They told us if we wanted to use the space the night before for a rehearsal (please note: it was already going to be all set up for us in our floor plan, for the next day, and no one else was going to rent it out for that night) to just be in the space, we had to pay an additional $500. Also, if we were to rent the space, and pay that $500, we were not allowed to bring anything early to leave in the kitchen, and or decorate anything. The $500 charge, would be for us to literally just use the space for 2 hours to walk around and run through our ceremony for the next day. They did offer to let us eat in there for our rehearsal dinner after I gave some push back and asked questions, but it was not in our budget. The amount of money they wanted to charge us to just be in there, felt like a money grab. Especially since no one was going to be renting it the day before. They weren't losing money on it.
Set up: The venue will set up your floor plan for when you get there. We had both the ceremony and reception there, and my set up crew (friends and family) was responsible for the reception flip of the tables and chairs.
Cleaning: The city of Hillsboro's website says that if you rent a facility through them, that if you pay a cleaning fee, they will provide cleaning services for you. However, Hidden Creek does not offer this service. You will be required to have a cleaning crew from your own party, and they will be required to clean. They do provide a cleaning list, but it does entail things like emptying the garbage bins, sweeping, cleaning up spills, wiping down counters, etc. Then your point person that they give you from the community center, will inspect things before you leave and ask you to clean things that are not done.
You do pay a damage deposit that is refundable, if your designated cleaning crew has cleaned up to the community center's standards and is out, by the end of your rental time.
Patio: There is a patio on the backside of the venue. In order to use it, you have to rent it for an additional charge. It faces the park. We were told that it was going to be blocked off during our event, so that the general public would not have access to it, nor would they be able to look into our event. However, it was not blocked off, and we had people walking and riding their bikes on the patio, and looking into the windows.
Like I said at the beginning, it is a beautiful space. I'm not sure it's the right space for a wedding though with everything that entails. Looking back, I probably would have gone with a different venue with all of the red tape and lack of flexibility...
Read moreRecently joined because my husband & I want to get into shape. We didn’t think we could join a gym because of our 1 year old. Thinking we’d have to take turns and the headache of planning all that out. The HCCC has something called “Kids Club” where they will watch our son for up to two hours. (And I doubt I’m ever going to exercise for 2 hours haha). It’s allowed us to put our health as a priority & sets a good example for our son. The staff at Kids Club is amazing! They do not feed or change the children, and will get you if that’s needed, which is fine by me. Just having the option to take a class or lift weights is amazing. I feel so supported (as a young family) by my community. They also have special gymnastics for the little kids that we’ve been going to. I’m just so happy this exists, especially during these times when I’m far away from my family and was feeling strain from a...
Read moreDefinitely on the fence. Is really close to our house and new building with new equipment sounded great. But the staff looks bord and tired if you ask anything. If you want more information about something they direct you to the website. While taking my membership picture the employee didn't even got up and took a picture while seating. Needless to say I gained a few pounds on that picture from a gim employee that didn't want to get up? But other than employee disappointment is their hours, they really aim at Intel workers? Nice schedule during the week the weekend closed most of the day. We'll see how it goes. Today we went just to find that the Gim is closed for a week, and as a member we didn't receive any type of notice. Should I Google Everytime I want to go to see if they decide to open that day? Sad to say that's what you get from a city...
