I went to Avanti Salon (on 3rd and Madison) for the first time today for a wash, cut, and blowout. It's been a long while since I've had a haircut and I really needed some life and layers put back into my hair. I had Maribel as my stylist. I was a bit nervous about getting a haircut again due to COVID, but Avanti did a great job with precautions. It was just me and Maribel there both properly wearing masks with plenty of hand sanitizer around and a temperature check when I entered.

I have naturally thick and curly hair, so finding someone who understands how to work with my hair is sometimes difficult. Maribel knew exactly how to cut my hair without me even telling her. I asked her to thin my hair and she used a technique that is for wavy/curly hair (I knew about this technique, but didn't even specifically ask for it) and she even told me she was doing it that way because of my hair texture. I sometimes find that stylists cut more off way than I want, but not Maribel! She took of the smallest amount possible and maintained my length while giving my hair shape again.

Last thing (and most important in my opinion) - this blowout is incredible! My hair feels so soft and she told me her blowouts normally last people a week. It's only day one, but I believe her! This blowout is great!

This place is not honest. I came in to get my hair colored to touch up the grays. I originally asked for a glaze on the phone but when I arrived the hair dresser told me I should get a glaze as that will work better for my hair and that it would cover my grays. She said that if I did a color process it would be harder to dye in the future. I was happy to do a color process but she said glaze was best. I did glaze and got home and none of my grays are gone. When I called to see if I could go back to fix the woman was incredibly rude practically calling me a liar and saying if I wanted to come in since it was my fault I picked glaze I'd have to come in for a whole new dye process and she would charge me in full for the difference. I get people suggest things that may not work for people - but if YOU are the ones who suggest something to the client- then it's YOUR responsibility to make it right. So many other hoboken places are better. And to top it off- they charge extra to just blow dry after your treatment....

I just had a wonderful cut by Maribel. I am new to Hoboken & very protective of my hair and am also a super nervous client with new stylists, but I was put right at ease. My hair is sooo long & it had been forever since my last cut. Maribel suggested we leave it long & just give it more layers and she took off about 5” and it’s still so long and looking better than ever. She also literally completed the wash, cut & blow dry within 40 minutes. I’ve never had that happen and had it been such a terrific cut, too. My hair looks & feels amazing and I’m breathing a sigh of relief. I booked this appointment based on google reviews alone and called yesterday for an appt today.
