My family recently rented two cabins for about a week. We stayed at Steven's Springs and Shady Hill.
If you are looking for shiny & new, then please stay in town or drive to a big city and all that comes with it, but if you're fine with a quiet, rustic, experience where you are off the beaten path, then as the name suggests, Hidden Hills might just be for you.
First the plus side -
Remoteness - It was quiet and rustic, a literal cabin in the woods, but with indoor plumbing and electricity.
Cleanliness - Everything was clean.
Arrival - The door codes provided worked as expected.
Spaciousness - There was plenty of space for the entire family.
Beds/bedrooms - The pillows and mattresses were great and most of us were able to sleep in if that was our wish.
Cookware - The cookware, was adequate but of course showed signs of use, we had brought several things with us so this wasn't a problem.
The television worked, but see "WiFi" under cons below.
Oven, toaster, and Keurig coffee pot all worked fine.
Insects, critters, bugs - There were none to speak of although I did see deer traversing the woods between the cabin and the roadside trashcan.
Water pressure, temperature - There were no issues with the water pressure, smell, quality, or the temperature of the hot water.
On the con side -
Bathroom access - The bathroom on the main floor of a three-level cabin was only accessible by passing through the only bedroom on that level, if leaving the kitchen, dining room or living room, one had to pass through the bedroom in order access the bathroom. NOTE, I was informed that Steven's Springs was the oldest cabin on the property and was due for upgrades, hopefully the bathroom access will be one of the first things upgraded.
WiFi - While the wi-fi worked, it could be upgraded to fiber optic to better support streaming services on the television.
Appliances - The refrigerator ice and water dispensers were not working or had been disconnected, that was a disappointment since it was August. The dishwasher was last due for replacement.
There was a classic claw-foot bathtub in our cabin that was due to be stripped and resurfaced...
Read moreWe have been to Beavers Bend many times. This was our first time to rent from Hidden Hills Cabins. Needless to say, it's our last. Our cabin was nice. The amenities in the pictures were not there or not working. When we got there, there was wet wood delivered. We paid $50 dollars for a bundle. I contacted the office and got a text back. When I told the lady about the wet wood, which I have had to do before, it happens, she has zero customer service in her. She told me to go to town and buy some dry wood. She then stated that if we didn't find any she would replace ours. I shouldn't have to buy more, I already did that. So, don't buy bundles. Go to town, it's less expensive and guaranteed to be dry. Then there was the matter of the grill. In the pictures and word description of the cabin there was a gas and charcoal grill that were not open grills. So we bought a lot of good meat to cook. The grill was not there. So I included this in the message. When she got back to me I sent the pics from the site showing what we were suppose to have. She told me the grill was by the firepit. I sent a picture of a small open charcoal grill and she completely ignored my pics of the grill advertised. When I told her I was asking about what was advertised, she said that was all they've ever had there, then said well maybe that was there before. Then she said "thanks". She was so dismissive and what I felt to be ignoring my real question. I also found a glob of hair in the shower, which is so gross. She did apologize for that. By this time I was done trying to talk with her because she could care less about our experience. Only 2 of the 4 tvs worked. The one outside by the fireplace did not work and we were really disappointed. The grate in the outdoor fireplace was broken and our wood kept falling off. Overall, we received poor customer service and will stick with Broken Bow Cabin rentals and Blue Beaver. I do not recommend Hidden Hills Cabins if you want to have good...
Read moreStayed at the lovely Hartwood Cabin from Friday to Monday for a little over $2k. I know I paid for the luxury of having a hot tub, heated pool with three bedrooms. It was and is a beautiful cabin the in woods with a very peaceful back view of the cabin looking into the woods.
I gave a one star overall for this review simply because the company has banned me from all future stays with this company because I was honest about a four minor negative comments. See attached picture from their response to my initial survey.
Here are the negatives:
1). Did you know that if you have lava rocks in a fire pit that you should not use the pit as lava rocks can explode? I sure didn’t and neither did my husband. Good thing we are not a family that seeks to sue for pain and injury to my finger or my sons girlfriends face.
2). One dirty pan was found in the cabinet.
3). The 4 mile road to get to the cabin needs much attention. Two big wash outs and a million pot holes. I get that you want to blame it is a county road however you have the means and funds to make it better than it is.
4). The master bathroom floor did not appear to be clean at all…especially around the toilet. Did I call to complain about it no as I have a husband and a son and it isn’t the first time I have not cleaned a floor. Also, did not see a reason to have a cleaner come out especially when our fur baby was with us and it would have been an issue at that point.
Now the positives: Beds and pillows were great. No complaints.
Space and decor were fitting and welcoming.
Kitchen coffee maker and utensils were perfect.
Pool was a good size….it was not freezing but also not 80 degrees as stated.
Hot tub was great and close to the back doors right on the deck.
The host was quick to respond when I informed them that the labels for the switches for the back porch...
