It's a good grocery store. I usually have a list on my phone of items I need before going in to control spending. If you are looking for canned items for your mid to longer term food storage they have good prices for their canned vegetables, I stay away from the ones that are over $1, they have cheaper brands at around $0.76ish. Their canned fruit prices are ok, could be better. Their milk is cheap at $3.03 so I bought three gallons to put in my deep chest freezer. I bought bratwursts, one for this week's dinner and one to freeze for later. Their weekly ads seem to be getting smaller, don't know if anyone else has noticed this. I didn't find anything I wanted from the weekly ads this week. I tried to pick up some red grapes but they looked kind of small and puny so I passed on that. Their roma tomatoes looked good and I got a few of them. Their bananas looked decent and picked up two bunches, one super green to ripen to eat later this week and one more yellow to eat now. Take a look around, be smart with your money and look at prices. Hopefully you will find some good deals. Bring your own bags. They do curbside pickup. And if you have never shopped here bring a quarter to use one of their carts, and yes you will get that...
Read moreTwo or three years ago, the Aldi in Homewood was temporarily closed for renovations. When they reopened, they had added several more checkout lines, so that there are now five or six of them. However, I've never seen more than two of them open, and 90% of the time there is only a single person working check-out. You can expect that you will be waiting in a line that stretches alllll the way down the "Aldi Finds" aisle--so go ahead and enjoy browsing what they have that week because you WILL be here for awhile. Contrast this to what I experienced when visiting my son in Tuscaloosa a couple of months ago. Their Aldi was fully staffed, had multiple self-checkouts, and we were in and out in a flash. The location was no larger, the number of shoppers not significantly greater or lower... so what gives? Here's a quarter, call someone who cares--because the management at Greensprings Hwy sure doesn't. It's a shame, because Aldi has the best...
Read moreSo if you have never been to Aldi before, few things you should know: Because Aldi is a discount grocery store, things Re a little different. To get a shopping cart, you can insert a quarter into the side slot into the buggy and when you return it, connect it to the chain and your quarter will pop back out. Aldi does not bag your purchases. They scan your items and after you pay, you can go to the side counter and bag them yourself, You can bring your own bags, or purchase bags there, or grab an empty produce box, for free. Many things are at a discount price, and they usually are busy, so be prepared to save, if you don’t mind the chore of bagging your own groceries! I totally think it’s worth the savings! After all, WalMart is going almost totally self check out lines, only, so there’s no...
