First surf lesson in Hawaii for the kiddos (11 & 8 yrs old). Chris is a fun teacher! They had a blast! He messaged me ahead of the lesson to prepare us. (Need rashguards and recommended an inexpensive place to get them.) He provided the boards and a rashguard shirt for one of the kids. He’s knowledgeable and strong (towed two boards and the two kids to the waves). The kids couldn’t stop raving about him and their experience. He’s great with kids! The boys told me his instructions were very clear and he’s really good at teaching. There was an optional package to get photos of the kids. (I never even buy the roller coaster snapshots bc I’m frugal). I decided to get the photos and they’re worth it — from shore, they looked like teeny dots and we couldn’t see them. The photos really told the story of their time on their boards. Jen is the very friendly photographer and also super good with kids. They were both very kind, attentive, fun and professional . It was a memory of a lifetime for the kids! A hui ho, Chris! If we stayed longer in Hawaii, we’d sign up for more lessons. He’s highly...
Read moreChris is the best coach I ever met, among all sports Not just surf. I've met many instructors while trying outpowerlifting, skiing, boxing, and so on, Chris is top of the top. He has lots of expertise in guiding new surfers, always finding the most critical improving points from last try, and crystal clear communication skills to convey his points. Lastly, his humor and energy would make you feel supper pleased and safe:) My gf and I have class on a super windy day, Chris pull us to the wave point single-hand lmao. Before that, He simulate the waves by deadlift us with the board(that really helps and make his lecture really straight). My gf can surf all the way to the beach with a few try thanks to his guidance. Super friendly to non-native English speaker/colored people/Asian. Feel respected all the way. Most of the White coaches in surfing/diving cannot be compared to him from this aspect. I highly recommend Chinese/Japanese/Korean fellows to try this guy. Jenny is also a cheerful, and aigid Photographer. Will...
Read moreI met the owner and surf instructor of South Shore Surf Co (Chris) at Yardhouse one evening while here on vacation. He was very welcoming and friendly to me when I sat down next to him and some other local friends of his. He told me he is a surf instructor and asked me to come out and surf with him, it was the highlight of my trip. He was so patient, also an amazing instructor. I have taken many surf lessons in Hawaii, but this was by far the best one I’ve ever done. I’ve never been able to catch the wave on my own and he taught me how to catch it, by the end of the lesson I was able to catch the wave on my own without the extra “push” from him. He is also a fun instrctor to be out there with. He got some awesome footage from the day, to be able to look back on the amazing experience. If you’re visiting HNL or even live on the island and want some surf help, I highly recommend choosing South Shore Surf Co. He truly has a passion for teaching people how to surf and gets excitement from seeing...
