Highly NOT recommend any asians go to the show!!!!! Just watched the show. Walked out with both disppointment and upset. Let me ellaborate: My experience on magic shows: I watched multiple real world class magician shows include David Copperfield, Frederic from Paranormal mind reading, Shawn from Hidden Wonder Speakeasy etc. So I think I do know a little bit about magic shows.
About the magic part of the show: I do like how shoot put comedy part into magic. But it still can't cover the weakness of the content. Regular poker magic, coin magic, rope magic, thread magic, ring magic, finger escape magic. All relatively small tricks and hand tricks instead of mind blowing magic. For each domain there are way better magician. And for all combined I love Shawn from vancouver way better than this.
Price: David copperfield show starts from $88 and using amazing layout, staffs, huge theatre. Paranormal mind reading starts from $30. Shawn's show starts $50 but vip only cost $65. But for this show? Adult ticket starts from $99, even with coupon is still $79. How much is VIP? $169!!!! Come on!
Interactions: The most upset part for this show is the interation part. Me and my wife was cued multiple times, ask about showing our rings, but not picked lol. Ask for a lady, my wife raise her hand like crazy and we are in middle seats, Shoot chose to completely ignore us. Asking for a man? Picked guy infront of me, behind me, not even look at me for one sec. Even the guy behind me shakes his head, Shoot insist. The worst part is in the end, he looked at us and ask audience, may I should pick some asians? And we were so excited and answered about yes we saw magic shows before. Then Shoot picked a lady who didn't even volunteered. Two of us looked like idiot. For the record, I'm totally fine with not picked, i get it and it's most of time what happened. BUT! You should not tease people, make them excited then disppoint them. Specially I can just feel that he's not respecting us being asian!
In the end there was a sale moment and hold audience their for his magic tutorial cds. We don't care anymore and just want to get out from here.
Overall it's such a bad experience. Ruined our night and we have to put our vacation mood back together with ice cream :(. The worst magic show experience for sure. Definitely not world class nor 5 stars. I have to warn people specially asains. DON't go unless u are fine with the things I...
Read moreOur evening at the Magical Mystery Show was truly a night to remember. We were booked for the earlier show, but my husband had an upset stomach that he came down with about an hour before show time. I called to cancel and spoke to Jonathan, the Owner. He couldn't have been nicer and offered to switch us to the later show provided my husband felt better, which he fortunately did. We were charged a change fee. We were a bit surprised at the fee, but agreed to pay it in hopes the experience would be worth it and it certainly was.
We were met outside the theater door by Peter. He was warm and welcoming and introduced us to sweet, Merlin. How apropos is that name? He was an incredibly adorable white rabbit. Peter informed us we would be the only ones watching the show. This was not only surprising, but incredible to us that the magicians would proceed to entertain an audience of two. Keep in the mind the theater is small. I'd guess it seats a max of 40 folks, but still... We didn't feel the performances were cut short or altered due to the fact that there was only the two of us. If they were, we didn't feel shortchanged.
Jonathan was present the entire show and we welcomed the opportunity to meet him and thank him in person. You have to experience the entry way and the theater itself to appreciate it. Kudos to Jonathan's wife who did the decorating. It was a combinaton of Victorian and tasteful 'Addams family' if that makes sense:) I could go on and on about just that, how it tied in with the theme and so on, but the decor lent itself perfectly to the show.
Two magicians performed - the first (whose name I cannot recall, but I think it sounded like Kay-shin phonetically) and the second, Kekoa Erikson. There was an instant, unexplainable connection between us with both magicians. We enjoyed both of them immensely. Kekoa, who is the more seasoned of the two, particularly wowed because there were several aspects of his performance that were direct connections to us. I won't go into the details, but the point is, it was almost as if he knew us - our favorite color, movie and song. The level of their tricks was high and left us captivated and intrigued. We experienced something magical that evening that went beyond the magicians' illusions and wonders. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and enjoy this...
Read moreI live on Kauai and visit Oahu often, and I have attended many different shows in Honolulu. I can honestly say The Magical Mystery Show is one of the very best shows I've seen on Waikiki. It was such great fun. It was amazing. And I kept hearing myself say "Oh come on! How did he do that?!" Shoot Ogawa was our magician at last night's performance, and I believe there are other magicians in the cast, each remarkably gifted in sleight of hand, making the impossible possible, right in front of your eyes. No matter how closely you watch your magician's hands, I bet you'll hear yourself saying "Oh come on!" as well. There are so many great things to say about this show: The magic is amazing. The audience participation is a hoot. The magician's sense of humor is so entertaining. There were only adults at our performance, although children would love this show just as much as adults, maybe even more so. Time after time, we were all spellbound and then laughed in amazement. The room lends an intimate vibe no matter the audience size, and our host Kekoa did a great job preparing us for the fun ahead before Shoot took the stage. Did you notice the number of 5-star reviews? The show truly is that good. If you can only do 2 or 3 activities during your time on Waikiki, I hope you'll make The Magical Mystery Show one of your choices. I promise you'll leave with happy memories of a really good time. And who doesn't love...
