Today was our second to last night in Hawaii, and to say I was disappointed with this dinner would be an understatement. I'm writing this to warn others to avoid this tourist trap. IGNORE THE 5 STAR REVIEWS.

We waited for 40 min for a table for 4. The service was slow and awkward at times. Our server was friendly, but only came by once to check up on us. We were seated outside with two other tables, and no one came by until 15 minutes later to take our order. This was the end of the night so we were already starving. We could see the other tables looking around for the bill and getting impatient.

We ordered 4 items: chicken karaage, two rolls that cost ~$28 EACH, and the jalapeño wrap. That came to $120, including tip. We paid cash since they add 4% if you use credit.

The chicken karaage tasted okay, but the skin was not crispy and everything had a strong ginger taste. It did not come with any sauce. The wrap was surprisingly good. We liked the spiciness and the ahi. The rolls were average, but 1000% not worth the price. It was basically a chopped tuna roll with more tuna and sauce on top. The other was a baked roll with cream cheese, which tasted fine. None of the dishes came with wasabi or ginger.

For those saying "premium price for premium fish", trust me, it's no better than the fish you get anywhere else in Hawaii. We left the establishment still hungry. We've eaten at 100+ sushi places all over the world, and this was the first to make me this mad. They are deliberately using these amazing reviews to jack up their prices while providing subpar service and food. I'm begging everyone to literally eat anywhere else and save your money for a downpayment for a house...

I’m appalled. I’m a very nice guy and it’s pretty hard to get me upset. I’m not petty. Never leave long negative reviews. None of these single complaints are enough to upset me but the accumulation of all of them combined is what made me put in the effort. I want to tell you about my experience here.

My wife, who is pregnant, and I waited for half an hour to be seated… All is well and good, poppin place, right? But the problem is, once we were seated we ordered our food and we waited around 50 minutes for our food to be served.

That could’ve possibly been excusable, but not in this case… multiple parties came in after us.. they got served their food and finished eating and we still didn’t get our food…

The table right next to us were looking around waiting for the check for what seemed like forever… Also looked like they were getting impatient… The table behind us the lady and her man literally complained that their food was taking so long as well… they looked pretty mad.. and I thought I was upset

And I think something for me that just capped it off is service etiquette… They served one of my wife’s orders… we had no chopsticks, napkins, soy sauce, or even the little plates that hold them… We were looking around like what are we supposed to do? They bring us everything and asked us if we wanted any extra soy sauce or ginger and I said yes… Which we never got… Remember how my wife got her food? It was quite a while until I got my food. After waiting an hour and a half my wife and I are just sitting there not eating even though her plate is there because we don’t eat separate we...

If you're looking for a sushi spot that's not too touristy, but still close to the beach, you might want to check out Sushi Spot Waikiki. I stumbled upon this place while searching for a dinner option with my granddaughter, who loves sushi as much as I do. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the dishes, as well as the friendly service. The restaurant has a cozy and casual atmosphere, with wooden tables and colorful posters on the walls. The menu offers a range of sushi options, from nigiri and sashimi to rolls and poke bowls. We ordered a poke salad, which was fresh and flavorful, with chunks of tuna, and tobiko on a bed of greens. My granddaughter had a special request for her California Roll: she wanted it without avocado. The waitress was very accommodating and brought her exactly what she wanted. We both also enjoyed the flavor of the miso soup, nice unique touch. I enjoyed my nigiri as well, which had a perfect balance of rice and seafood. The fish was tender and tasty, and the rice was cooked just right. I also tried a canned juice that caught my eye: Hawaiian Sun Passion Orange. It was delicious and refreshing, with a natural sweetness and a hint of tartness. I liked it so much that I ordered another one. We had a great time at Sushi Spot Waikiki, and we would definitely go back again. It was a local gem that satisfied our sushi cravings without breaking the bank. If you're in the area and looking for a good sushi place, give it a try. You won't regret it.
