READ ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS, RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK AND BE PREPARED TO BE SCAMMED!!
My recent rental experience with Sixt at the Alohilani Resort in Honolulu was beyond disappointing—it was troubling. The car I received was visibly worn, with numerous scrapes, dents, and signs of wear that were initially documented electronically. However, after Sixt later accused me of causing a tiny nick and submitted the attached photo to their claims department, I checked my rental record only to find that the detailed documentation of damage I'd originally seen had been reduced to just the one item they claimed I caused. When I picked up the vehicle, there were about six or so damage notations; seeing that disappear in the record was unsettling and raised serious concerns about their record-keeping integrity. If you rent from this location, I highly recommend saving your rental record with all existing damage to your phone, as it appears details could be altered after the fact. Thankfully, Sixt’s claims department eventually dismissed the branch’s damage claim, but it was an unnecessary ordeal.
On top of that, Sixt charged me for an extra rental day, claiming I returned the car late. I sent an email letting them know about the discrepancy and received a voicemail from Sixt asking to discuss. I subsequently tried reaching them multiple times, leaving messages, but never got any further follow up. This was despite providing them my airline ticket showing that I left Hawaii the day before they alleged I returned the car.
After reading other Google reviews, I discovered many similar complaints about this location—others have reported unfounded damage claims. It seems these practices are not isolated incidents. Given my own experience, their attempts to pin damage, charge an extra day, and manipulate records, I would strongly advise against renting from this Sixt branch. I travel frequently for both business and leisure, renting cars often, and I have never had such issues with any other rental company. This is only my second time renting from Sixt, and after this experience, it will be my last.
For anyone still considering this location, be sure to document every detail and save a copy of your rental record. It’s clear that diligence on the renter’s end is essential to address potential scams this location may...
Read moreFirst-time SIXT customer. Not only was the rental car had the worst condition I've ever seen, but the customer service was also by far the worst. My advice is to just rent from a respectable company if possible. If you are running out of options and have to deal with SIXT (like me), expect to be a scam if you have other means of travel protection. Take enough pictures and videos to protect yourself and let your credit card deal with this scammer directly.
My credit card has collision protection, so naturally, I declined that protection just as I do with other rental car companies. SIXT would take this opportunity to give you the worst possible car in their lot and scam you for collision damage. I tried to reason with SIXT with their so-called customer support in the office and later with the email support with proof of photo/video and rental agreement, but this was a waste of time. When I returned the car, they claimed there were new damages. I showed them my pre-rental agreement that I went through with the previous rental agent showing the "new" damages were already captured. I even pointed out from their post-rental receipts and caught them on the spot that they REMOVED the damaged items from the original rental agreement! The office let us go after being caught in the act, but their phone/email support continued to harass us for weeks.
I ended up letting my credit card company dealed with the SIXT scammers. The claim agent also didn’t seem surprised when I described my experience with SIXT, probably their standard practice, and the insurance company eventually helped me settle with SIXT without anything out of my pocket.
I also wanted to cut my rental period from 3 days to 2 days due to schedule change. I called customer service for over one hour just to make that change because I couldn’t request such change online. The agent quoted me the new price. When I returned the car, SIXT still charged me for full 3 days, claiming the bill would be settled later. It never did. I called the support again, and the new person said the price for the 2 days was the same as 3 days, and they suppose to charge me more for changing the rental halfway.

Read moreEditing for follow up: SHAME on this company. While the employees we met were pleasant and friendly, our experience after the fact is bizarre and shady.
We happened to be walking into the hotel when they were doing a drawing for a free 2 day rental-cool! We had not booked a rental as we were only here for 2 days and planned to stay pretty central, we have a friend stationed at the Air Force Base and would be with her in the evenings but they pulled our name so yay, we thought.
We used the rental for one day, we drove only well paved, centrally located roads. The BMW that we rented has 360 cameras, and we had absolutely no issues or were in any uncertain situations before returning the rental to Alohilani.
When we returned (you return to the hotel valet,) I asked the valet to please wait a minute while I did a quick video and pictures of the car as I ALWAYS do with rentals. The valet gave me a hard time and tried to talk me out of it; saying that you should only do that when checking out the car or it doesn’t matter. I said I always document the condition when I drop off just in case. He impatiently let me complete a quick video, where we noted ZERO issues as we knew there were none.
Surprise, surprise. 2 days later we receive an email with a small dot on a pictograph noted UNDER the bumper stating that we caused a “scratch down to the primer.” We responded and refuted that claim, there was absolutely no instance in our possession where this could have occurred. Another few days has gone by, and they’re now requesting payment of $520 to repair this scratch. Upon Google search, this is a common practice by Sixt rentals. Shame, shame, shame on this business practice. We will NEVER rent from a Sixt location, and will ensure that anyone we come across know this experience as well.
