Update 11/4/21: Let me start off by saying, overall, I love Costco and the way they treat their employees. But, the location at 1150 Bunker Hill Rd, Houston, TX 77055 continues to be the most poorly managed store in the entire Costco chain in the greater Houston area as I shop at all of the Costco's in the Houston area as they all have slightly different stocked items. Was just there Friday evening and the manager on duty, as per usual in the evenings reduces check out lanes to only 3-5. It is usually very busy in the evenings and Friday was no exception. The excessively limited open check-out lanes unnecessarily created lines all the way to the middle of the store. In a friendly and courteous manner, I requested from a manager extra help in check-out. As per usual and from past experience, this manager was immediately on defense and had a noticeably negative attitude from my friendly request. Am confused as to why this location continues to 'ration' customer service at check-out and in returns. The only thing I can think of is that this was one of the first stores in the area to install self check-out and this is an experiment gone wrong at this location. Or, managers don't like the self-checkout lanes and are attempting to scuttle the concept as it must come at a loss of a few employee check out positions. Also, it's obvious manager reduces staff to only one employee working returns at around 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. And, the poor lone returns employee that is unfortunate and unfairly placed into a situation to face this continuously growing line of customers is also attempting to reconcile all returns with individual return slips for each item in what appears to be an attempt to possibly leave early or right at closing time, which it's 8:30 p.m. for this location. Am aware of this technic as I've been in retail myself. Gasoline station occasionally doesn't open at 6:00 a.m. as their employees don't always show up for work. I can see now, after speaking to several employees and the new store director at this location that they're attempting to normalize this sort of behavior as there's never a commitment to ensure this never happens again. Can't believe this is the way they do business. It can't be for a lack of employees that desire to work there. There are people lined up waiting to get jobs at Costco and Sam's Clubs. Heck, I'd work there, but I'd never consider working at this location. When is corporate going to fix the issues that seem to only plague this store? Am challenging Costco corporate to get better management at this store and get rid of confrontational employees and...

I have to think a lot and feel offended after experiencing at Costco today. As an Asian member, I come here almost every 2 weeks and this was disappointed.

I tried to get help today and there was a tall man talked to me, the thing is my problem might difficult so he asked for a moment then bring my ID to the back. I stood there for a while, then another woman came at my registration and asked for the next one. She was completely ignoring me although I'm 5'8. Am I too short that she could not see I was right in front of her? There were so many people that I could not step aside so I told her that I was waiting for a man, he is helping me and he told me to stay here. Honestly, I know this guy, I saw him every time I came to Costco and he was the one who opened my account.

The lady apologizes to the family that she called earlier and turned to a lady next to her asked if she knew me but she said she didn't pay attention. She asked for my ID, I said the man took it, she asked what my problem was, I told her and continue asking for the paper I brought (which was my problem) and I told her he took it with him, too.

She looks at me like I didn't understand English, pulled out her mask, and said it louder: "you don't have your member ID, I don't know what your problem is or who is helping you so...". I was confused and asked her what I should do, she said: "You go back there and look for him, maybe" and she called the next one to come.

That was ridiculous as she never instructed me to wait for that man or where I should be or anything. I froze, did not know how or who could help. Like someone who had not presence.. Would I be rude if I still stood there? The lady did not even look at me after that man came and apologized for taking so long.

Well, that's a good thing to know about the "customer experience" of her because I as knew, I was trained to be polite to customers no matter what when I was 18 at...

Your loss prevention / employees are just…I don’t even know. I do not think I will be back at this location for a while because of my recent experience. I know I should have called the manager over, but knowing the attitude and lack of ethics from their employees, I do not expect anything more. The least I can do is write my review on here for everyone in Houston to know. I will be writing to corporate of course with a compiled documentation of other similar negative reviews from this location sigh

I did not get the chance to show my card since the front guy was talking to a coworker and upon self-checkout, I had a bad experience. I’ve been a member for 4 years and rarely do I get asked for my ID.

I already scanned my membership card and a lady in a white root to blue wig stopped me and asked for my membership again. I told her I already scanned it and she flipped my card to tell me that “She needs to be here for you to checkout.” I told her that it was me in the photo, she looked at me again with doubt and asked for my ID. She looked at my ID and my membership card with doubt and proceeded to just tell me a soft “Ok.”

No apology, nothing. So as someone who worked in retail, this can either be by her own actions or by LP’s orders. I have been using gift cards to checkout to keep myself within budget, nothing fraudulent. Either way, that was rude. So then I checked out, and went to my car to put my stuff back in my car, headed to customer service to get my photo retaken since “it did not look like me”. Needed to update it to the black one anyways. Funny because the customer service lady told me I did look like my photo.

So I don’t know if you need to look or dress a certain way to be treated better. I came in with some casual clothes. After reading more negative reviews, this store seems to be particularly racist towards Latinos. Jokes on them...

****ANOTHER UPDATE**** 11/27/19 costco never ceases to amaze me!! Every single time I come here I am so irritated that I end up updating my review for more bad news. This may very well be the last time I come here. Today, I visited the wireless center to get a new phone. Mind you, its the day before Thanksgiving and they have one person working. I arrived and signed in at 10:39 am. I am sad to say that it is now 11:42 and I have yet to be helped. Still in line. I had no idea I needed to block out 2 hours of time to get a new cell phone. The deal is worth i . But you would think costco would have more people on hand to help the customer experience. NO PHONE FOR ME TODAY!!! Update to previous post. These people do not know how to manage Saturday lines. Do not come here. Check out the mad lines. It's complete chaos. Hats off to management!! This place is always a mad house on the weekends, but you can pick up some good deals if you're an avid price checker. You have to be careful about what you buy though as some things are surprisingly overpriced. Just look elsewhere before you buy it you're not sure. I only come for party supplies like food and beverages and that usually works out in my favor economically. The hot dogs at the food court are Nathan's and they're definitely worth the 1.50
