was told it got deleted so reposting- I am giving this place one star due for a MULTITUDE of reasons. I was really looking forward to coming to celebrate my sisters birthday. It was a total disaster. Our reservation was made weeks ago for 9 pm and they basically told us our table “wasnt ready” which is code word for “we dont have a table for you because we are greedy and double book”. So they ended up seating us in a “private room” which is basically a storage looking room with bright flurorescent hospital lights and absolutely zero AC and ventilation. It was so humid in there that my pin straight hair started to curl while we were sitting in there. I tried to get another table but my sister just wanted to eat at this point because they were already 20 minutes behind on our reservation so they offered us a free bottle of prosecco- which is fine. I dont care for alcohol as I dont drink so this was useless and on top of that- we were not looking for free things and especially not something that we could buy at the grocery store- we just wanted the experience we came for. I have dined at amazing steakhouses all over the country and ambiance is one of the most important factors to set the mood for a fun night. Sitting in this isolated room took away from the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant and absolutely ruined the night. The room was super old and stinky and they had to keep turning the fan on and off so it was either absolutely freezing with wind blowing down our necks and on our food or we sit in humidity- i quickly realized there was no air conditioning when they said they had to either turn it on or off. It was so incredibly uncomfortable and honestly the reason I did not order more food was because I just wanted to get the experience over with. I go to Steak48 very often with my husband and friends and have never experienced ANYTHING like this so I am incredibly apalled. Places like Bridgemans Chophouse, Maple and Ash, Lakeside at the Wynn and Steak48 are my favorite steakhouses across Houston and the US and I placed my expectations for this restaurant up there and was incredibly disappointed. I would have rather taken my money ANYWHERE else last night and if I was not with my sister and a group of her girlfriends, I would have absolutely left and not given this restaurant a single dollar after seeing the eerie storage room they sat us in but i did not want to ruin her night more than this place already did. So for the vibe and ambiance that we got last night, I would give ZERO stars. The one star comes in because I enjoyed the filet, sushi rolls and spicy Caesar salad. Branzino was good. The Delmonico steak was very underwhelming and was brought out cold, mac & cheese resembled the mac and cheese from a kraft box or Cici’s pizza, broccolini was just foul. Just super hard and the flavor profile did not mesh well with the food. The strawberry cake was HORRID. It was the dryest most flavorless cake ever and truly no real baker or self respecting establishment would present a cake that was identical to cardboard. There was zero strawberry flavor. Maple and Ash has a layered cake that is incredibly moist and melts in your mouth and thats what I was expecting but instead, it just crumbled. This place is absolutely not worth the drive, price or visit and I am incredibly disappointed because the menu has great options and the restaurant has so much potential to be incredible. This was honestly the worst dining experience of my ENTIRE life based on the humidity, smell and look of that “private room”. Not to mention it was eerie and full of chairs- obviously a storage room where they keep things. Maybe we just got unlucky but management did not handle this well and I am incredibly disappointed and my sisters...
Read moreDrake's Hollywood in Houston offers a memorable dining experience that blends modern elegance with a welcoming atmosphere. The decor is sleek and sophisticated, with contemporary furnishings and stylish lighting that exude a Hollywood glam vibe while still feeling relaxed and inviting. It's a beautiful setting for both casual dinners and special occasions.
The food, overall, was a standout. Each dish was not only delicious but presented with impressive attention to detail. Our appetizers were flavorful and beautifully arranged, setting a high bar for the meal to come. The main course did not disappoint either, especially the flavors and textures of the dishes. Everything was fresh and well-seasoned, showing a high level of skill in the kitchen. The pacing of the meal was also well-managed; dishes were served in courses, and the staff made sure to clear the table between each one, allowing us to fully savor each course without feeling rushed.
However, there was a noticeable issue with one of the steaks we ordered. Unfortunately, one of the steaks arrived completely raw in the center and cold to the touch. It was clear that it had not reached the required internal temperature, which was disappointing, given the overall quality of the other dishes. steak was ordered medium however cooked wrong, we didn't say anything but you could see a full plate with is a steak cut in the middle bleeding and no one touching it, it was an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise impressive meal. Perhaps part of the attention to details should also involve reading the table and the customers and pointing out things like the steak!
The service, on the whole, was excellent. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, guiding us through the various options with ease and offering recommendations. The timing of the service was spot-on, and we never felt neglected or rushed during the meal. It’s clear that the staff at Drake’s Hollywood knows what they’re doing and takes pride in delivering a top-notch dining experience.
As for the drinks, they were decent, though the cocktails took a little longer to arrive than expected, and the flavors didn’t quite stand out as much as the food. While not a major issue, the drink service could definitely benefit from being a bit more timely and creative, given the caliber of the kitchen.
In conclusion, Drake’s Hollywood is an excellent choice for a refined and enjoyable evening out. The food is exceptional, the service is on point, and the atmosphere is chic and inviting. While the issue with the steak was a setback, the overall experience was still very positive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a high-quality dining experience in Houston, and I look forward to returning for...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. I wanted Drake’s today for a late dinner. So I proceeded to call to place an order. I was on hold for a told of 10 minutes. By the time I reached the restaurant I walk in and the hostess is just sitting there talking to a waiter. I tell her I’m calling and is on hold, she proceeds to say we’re busy… I proceed to let her know I would like to order food. She then tells me I can only order at the bar. I’ve Place to go order several times here at this restaurant over the phone and have never had to physically walk to the bar order my food and wait for it there. If that’s the case I would have gotten dressed in appropriate clothing and had my dinner at the restaurant. This is supposed to be an upscale bar, that enforces a dress, it’s embarrassing and inconvenient to have to go to the bar order and wait for the food in street clothing. Nonetheless I walk to the bar only to find the restaurant half empty….. the bartender is busy making drinks so I had to wait even longer to place my order. I finally place my order the proceeded to head back to the host stand as I was not dressed appropriately to be sitting at a bar. While I was waiting I asked to speak with a manager, the hostess smacks her lips and walk off. The manager Chris eventually walks up and I proceed to tell him about my experience. He is immediately is defensive and as I’m telling him about the hostess when I first walked in, the hostess in a smart tone says “so I wasn't doing anything” Being the manager of a “upscale restaurant” you’d think conflict resolution would be his top priority; but it isn’t he allowed for his hostess and I to have a back and forth exchange. He proceeds to tell me they do not take orders over the phone. I respond letting him know, I’ve ordered several times over the phone and there was an issue. Then he tells me well she’s not trained to handle food. I’m not sure what that has to do with taking and order. Then he proceeds to tell me about being short staffed, not having enough waitresses, not having enough bus boys, as if that’s something he should concern me with. Chris was fully committed to go back and forth with me on my personal experience. I had to cut the conversation and ask him to go check and see if my food is ready so I can go. As he walks off the hostess mumbles something and I asked her what she said. And she then proceeded to argue with me and says some slick comments as she walks off. Chris walks back with my order and says “you curse at my hostess, you are no longer welcomed here”. Mind you I never cursed at the hostess. I’m so dissatisfied with my service at this...
