This is for my curly hair girls that are thinking about going to this salon. I’d like to start out first by explaining that I had called ahead to see if they were available and had time to do a spiral perm to give my already naturally curly hair that extra lift and bounce. They said I could come in, upon arrival I explained who I was and what I had called for and I was immediately sat in a chair no problem. I’m a mixed baby so I naturally have very thick curly hair. I had previously had highlights done over the past year and had last bleached it over 5 months ago. Any professional hair stylist that knows what they’re doing will tell you that you need to wait at least 2 months after having any chemicals done to your hair. I typically go to a more ethnic salon but my salon was closed and I model and had a photo shoot in a few days so I was willing to pay good money for anyone willing to help me out with the time frame I had and this place said they could get me in. I waited in the chair for about 10/15 minutes before one of the ladies came up to me and asked to let my hair out of my bun so she could see what she was working with. Mind you(my curly hair girls will understand this) I had brushed my hair out COMPLETELY before going to this appointment. When our curls are brushed out their not going to be defined it’s going to be a big poof of hair that almost looks like a fro. I had put some argon oil on to calm down the frizz after brushing and I simply pulled it back into a lose bun so that all they had to do was their job. No extra untangling. I must be so wrong for trying to help them out because she took one look at the previous coloring on my hair and said she couldn’t do it and that if she did my hair would basically fall out. What it was giving off to me is that she judged me based of my skin complexion, took one look and said she didn’t want to take the time or work. I know my hair. My poc stylist I go to KNOWS my hair. My hair has taken so much chemicals in my life and never once has it fried it off after waiting a GOOD amount of time without putting further damage on it. All in all I’m disappointed that instead of asking me and taking more time to find out what my natural hair actually looks like and understanding and listening when I said it was well over 2 months since I had anything done and to make it better it was well over half a year since I had. She did not take the time to ask or find out. When a client knows their ethnic hair and what it can handle I would highly advise from a BUSINESS stand point that you listen to what the client wants. I came in with 700$ for these ladies just because of the importance of finding someone that was willing to cooperate with my last minute timing for a photo shoot. Whoever was willing to take the time to help me out and help me with what I needed done was going to be paid very generously because that’s just the kind of person I am. Goes to show not to “judge a book off its cover”. Had there been any cooperation I would have even considered going back for future business as well. I ended up having to cancel my photo shoot date and rescheduling it so that I can just wait until my ethic stylist is open next week. I’m a paid model so time and work is money and having to reschedule around this place after they said they had the time is playing with peoples money. Most definitely not good for business. I hope this review finds the right people and it helps give an honest view for them to determine whether or not it’s even worth your time. I also hope this review finds its employees and they can take something from this and do better next time something like this happens. Don’t judge someone based off what they look like or what their hair looks like off a quick glance. Please take more time to get to know your clients and work through options with them. If getting off early is more important then taking time and potentially getting a very good tip, you won’t have or keep many...
Read moreGoogle search engine and the store-front both indicate that this studio opens at 9AM on Saturdays. However, when I went recently to this salon, I arrived promptly at 9AM for my 9:30AM appointment. The clerk greeted me and then asked me to return at 9:30 as the staff hold meetings until 9:30 on Saturdays. I respond “Your front door and Google indicate that you are open now”. She says “Jessica doesn’t like anyone to be in the store until our meeting finishes at 9:30AM” and asks me if I can wait in my car. It was 90 degrees and I had just driven more than 3 hours from south of San Antonio. I say “Well I’d like to stay close by – I will just wait right outside the door”. Clerk says “Well you don’t have to wait in the heat”. I said “Well that’s exactly what you’re telling me to do”.
Cue Jessica the store-owner who walks in at this point. The clerk explains to her that I would like to continue waiting inside the salon. Turning to me Jessica asks “Do you have a car?”. I explain once again that by all indications, this salon is open and therefore, I would appreciate if I can wait inside. Cue 2 additional customers – it’s now about 10 after. Jessica tells the clerk to have myself and the other ladies wait in a small back room. While the meeting is taking place I can hear the original staff member (clerk) loudly complaining about me. Later Jessica tries to be friendly towards me but does not mention the earlier incident nor apologize for the collective incompetence of she and her staff.
I did not wake up at 3AM and drive 240 miles on my 1 day off to be asked to come back 30 minutes AFTER the indicated opening time of Jessica Hair Studio. When I went to pay, the clerk tried to charge me a 5% convenience fee for using a credit card which equated to $18. I told her absolutely not. She told the manager and they waived it.
As for the Liscio treatment - my results, honest to God, were so-so.
I paid $350 dollars for so-so results. My past experience at Shampoo-Do with Sunny on Vance Jackson (San Antonio salon – since closed) were the phenomenal, dramatic results you see wherein the models have super-silky root-to-tip results. After leaving Shampoo-Do, my hair could be done by running my fingers over it one or two times to flatten fly-aways. Naturally, I have course textured hair and it’s neither straight nor curly so Liscio helped me to acquire a sultry yet polished look and didn’t need to so much as put a brush through my hair for like 6 months. I paid $240 and left a generous tip since I could instantly see the stunning results.
In stark contrast, when I left Jessica Hair Studio, I had full volume hair but the resulting texture was smoother than my natural hair. That was about it. I cannot wash and wear and I use my flat iron daily. Jessica Hair Studio did not improve my routine or help me to cut down on time or put away my heat products. My stylist was nice and the venue was standard.
I have never been treated this way in a salon that expects consumers to pay big bucks in addition to customary 20% tips. I would NOT recommend going out of your way to choose this salon due to my personal experience and I will not be going back. If you do not care about consistency, standard practice or false advertising or you don’t think much about principals or customer-care, this might be a place for you. Plenty of salons in Houston....
Read moreI went to get baby lights and a short choppy layers on medium hair. I took a picture.
I was attended by Michelle. She kept telling me I have box color on my hair which I don't. I had virgin hair but she wouldn't listen. I kept telling her that I wanted a ash medium or dark blonde, not a light blonde, again she wouldn't listen. She gave me layers but nothing like the picture I took. She also cut on dry hair.
I sat on the chair for more than 5 hours because she couldn't get the color right. I got my hair washed multiple times (I had a Karetin treatment 5 weeks earlier so the extra washes were not good). Jessica had to step in. They finally got a warm color that looks good but there are blotches were it is still yellow.
I called a few days later to get my color even. I asked to see someone else because I don't think Michelle listens and she doesn't really know how to work with my hair. I was told that I would have to pay to see another stylist.
If I am going to pay to get it fixed, I would rather take my business else were.
Don't waste your...
