One star only because I have to in order to review.
I hate to start out with "normally I don't do this" but......here it goes. Firstly I want to make it clear, I have nothing bad to say regarding any of the stylists abilities as I didn't make it that far in my "journey" with Upper Hand. I had, by far, the WORST experience in trying to even get an appointment booked correctly.
I sent in the electronic request via their website requesting a specific stylist, as she was recommended by my former stylist who moved States. I was called that same weekend and booked my appointment with said stylist that week (Thursday @ 6:00) or at least I thought. Thursday came and I still hadn't received a courtesy confirmation call, thought maybe they did not provide this extra service - no big deal, I'll call just to make certain. I call to confirm and I was told I did not have an appointment booked. Huh? Okay then. Then I get a call a few minutes later from the salon to confirm my appointment with a stylist I did not book with at 6:00 but I was asked to come in a little later as she was running behind. Firstly I made the person who called me aware I had not booked with said stylist, I had specifically requested and had booked with another and I explained why. Secondly, why was I told I did not have an appointment when I called five minutes earlier? I was assured this stylist was a very capable stylist - not the point is it? I booked with one specifically and now you're telling me I'm not, it was explained to me the stylist I preferred was all booked and then she was leaving on vacation and this should have been explained to me when I booked the appointment.....obviously not. In addition to asking me to come in later, it's not that she was running behind - this happens, I can understand, I would expect the same if things in my life ran a little late, and work around it but it just added to my frustration. I cancelled and rescheduled, as this created a scheduling conflict, for the following week Thursday at 6:00.
I receive the confirmation call today confirming my appointment today at 6:40?! I called back to confirm but explained I had made the appointment for 6:00. She put me on hold to discuss with the Stylist, five minutes later she explains my appointment is scheduled for 6:40 and there is someone with her before me.
That was it........I've cancelled and will not try again, which is unfortunate as the stylists seem very talented - first impressions speak volumes. I'm not sure if it's a question of incompetence or they didn't wish to accommodate a new client. In any case, this did not leave a very good first impression and I wanted others to be aware before they experience a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to get balayage and a haircut & style by Kelsey (kelcrissmanhair)... I'm upset by the prices and the quality of service. I feel deceived.
During the consultation, she quoted me $380: $295 for full balayage plus $85 for cut&style.
When I came in for the real appointment, she said I could get away with the partial balayage. I agreed, because I figured it would be half the price. When I checked out, I learned it was $280, only $15 cheaper than the full balayage. If I had known that, I wouldn't have agreed to a partial. I feel like the partial was her plan all along, because the appointment wasn't booked long enough to be a full balayage -- she had another appointment right after mine ended.
When she did the cut, I explained that I wanted a specific length with 3 inches of layers. She agreed. Later, when she announced that she finished the cut, I asked her about the lack of layers. She said she did them. I showed a pic of layers and demonstrated the usual moves that hairdressers do for layers. She tried again, but continued doing texturing/thinning instead of layers. She thinned one spot too much and was forced to shorten the length everywhere else in order for me not to have a short section. She eventually gave up, telling me, "I didn't learn this in school. I was taught to blend." She said the haircut would be free. When I checked out, I learned the style alone is $55, so I only got $30 off for a bad haircut... so now I've lost money because I had to go for a second haircut somewhere else to fix attempt. (The second stylist was shocked by how chunky it was, said it wasn't straight, and confirmed that layers are a standard part of any lesson plan.)
Kelsey should've told me that she doesn't do layers when I explained the cut I wanted. I've never had a hairdresser who doesn't do them. If people didn't do them, Jennifer Anniston would've never achieved her iconic look on Friends. It is a legitimate hairstyling request. How can she get away with never doing layers? I'm appalled.
I gave two stars because the balayage turned out pretty good when my hair is down (but not when it is in a ponytail because the hair framing my face didn't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy homegirl has a new home! And its close to my home! Today was my second time seeing Logan for highlights at the Upper Hand. Iāve been seeing Logan for years on the recommendation of a co-worker. Actually, it wasnāt so much a ārecommendationā (I was perfectly content with where I had been going to get my hair done) as it was a persistent demand from said co-worker that I āneeded to see her girl Loganā. Turns out my co-worker was right. Iāve been getting blonde highlights for years, in every city from New York to Scottsdale, and Logan is truly the best of the best. She is so meticulous and not only does she get my hair to the absolute perfect shade (literally ZERO orange which I didnāt even realize was an option for me) but the placement is so damn perfect so that it still looks great even as its growing out. Both times Iāve seen Logan at this location, I also had the pleasure of having Rafael work his magic at sink. You know how there are people where its like āAre you really just like, THAT niceā¦?ā Turns out he is. (confirmed by Logan). Anyway, stop reading this and book yourself an appointment with Logan (But maybe not at 3:20 on a...
