Bohemian Tangled Nightmare
Style: Bohemian Knotless
I wanted to give it about two weeks to see how I could maintain the upkeep of the style before I wrote an honest review. For starters before I get into the tangled nightmare of the style let’s review the pricing of the style first. Upon making my reservation fee online prior to my appointment I received a quote of $270 for “ Bohemian Knotless” without the hair and $290 with the hair. Ok great, I confirm the price again and go online to reserve my appointment time with the $25 deposit. However, fast forward to get to the end of the session and now it is time to pay the price is totally different. I was told $290 for “Bohemian Knotless”. But now the price is $290 for Bohemian knotless with the braid hair, $30 for Bohemian, and an extra $12 for the extra curly hair. So now we’re at $332. I didn’t mind the extra $12 for the curly hair since I knew about that as she mentioned it ahead of time. But the extra $30 charge for “Bohemian” came at a total surprise when I SPECIFICALLY requested Bohemian Knotless as the style. Now if I wanted just “Knotless” braids she should have given me a price for Knotless which she did not. Not until it was time to pay I was told there is an extra charge for Bohemian when I already requested the price for Bohemian Knotless in the first place. One of the braid technicians continued to be condescending by doing a price breakdown like “let me add it up for you”. I’m an intelligent person and can add rather well so It was not the math that was the problem, it was the additional $30 that was added into a style that was never communicated; so beware of that part of the misunderstanding. They should just say Bohemian Knotless with braid hair and not curly hair is $320 instead of lying and saying it is $290 to avoid confusion and appearing to overcharge someone.
I arrive early because stylist Remi mentioned I would need to go and get the “curly” hair. After 2 beauty supply stores later I’m able to communicate with Remi while in supply store to be sure I purchased the correct hair. I return back to the store and it was still not the correct hair. Remi leaves to go to the first store I visited and purchased more hair. She returns back to braid salon and they begin the style. 6+ hours later of starting, stopping I’m finally finishing up near 3pm after arriving at 8:45am. Prior to leaving they inform me on how to “maintain the style is daily mousse and oil sheen”. So I’m thinking simple but as it turns out this has been the worst braid style I have EVER had. Obviously one the of the main reasons one decides to get braids is the easy on the go maintenance of it all. This style adds an extra 25 mins of my day every morning to detangle all of the knots from the hair matting together throughout the day although I do mousse/oil it daily. The hair constantly sheds and get’s attached to everything. Not to mention after working out it is a total travesty to spend another 30 mins detangling after sweat. So I called a couple other braid salons to be more educated about the maintenance of the style and it was recommended that they should NOT have used the leave out Bohemian hair on every single braid due to the nature of the hair getting entangled very easily. I’ve even tried braiding the hair like they did in the salon and using the hot water to make it curly again but that in itself is another 20-30 mins to do (braiding it, retrieving hot water, being safe not to burn yourself, and unbraiding while attempting to detangle at the same time). Don’t get me wrong the style was initially beautiful and they did a great job braiding, straight parting, and styling the hair. But just remember the first day is the last day it will ever look like that!! The hair is very full, heavy, and difficult to maintain. I most likely will still visit this salon again as they were very accommodating for scheduling purposes and the initial style was nicely done. I would just never get this style again knowing the maintenance is not...
Read moreThe stylists try to do a good job with what they have but improvements are needed. First off, my braids turned out good and they did a good job.
I have been a client for a year and a half and this weekend was a bit disappointing. I went for an appointment to take down my braids on yesterday and was shocked to learn the AC was not working. I asked had the shop lost power due to the recent storms in Houston and was told NO. No one in the shop bothered to explain or apologize for the inconvenience of no AC. I would have appreciated notification in advance via text or an email to let me know in advance that there was no AC in the shop.
My appointment to have by braids redone was today and I was hopeful that the AC would be repaired and things would be back to normal. I was sadly mistakened. In the 93 degree Houston weather, if a business has no AC, they should consider closing for the day. Instead my mom and I got our hair done with at least 7 fans (standing and ceiling ) circulating the hot air through the shop. They propped the door open to attempt to cool the place off, but only let flies and bugs in. My mom stated she had two bugs crawling on her leg. Keep in mind on average it takes 4-6 hrs to have braids put it. The stylists that I was familiar with were not in the shop yesterday or today. I guess they new the AC was not working and did not want to work in the heat . Some walk ins came in and left due to the heat.
Now to the conditions in the shop. Since the business has expanded, it appears the Bissonnet location has limited resources, supplies (shine jam, oil sheen spray, paper towels in the bathroom and neck towels - no clients today had towels around their neck) and clients.
The new stylists need a lesson on hygiene, shop etiquette, sanitary practices and cleanliness. (I.e. they drop combs on the floor and pick them up and put them in the customer’s hair without cleaning them. Today I saw I a stylist put the comb in her own hair while using it in a customer’s hair. People take their shoes off ) .
I’ll be calling before I return for...
Read moreI’m a traveling nurse that made this appointment based off of reviews, and although my hair looks great, I’m very disappointed in the service and would never come here again. For starters, the website is VERY inaccurate, the timeframe for braids is wrong and pricing is wrong as well. I went in with the impression I was going to be done by 1 pm and didn’t leave until closer to 5. Also I went in thinking I was only going to pay the remaining $205 after a $25 deposit for my style, but close to the completion I was told it was actually $250 and they wanted an additional $225 and that the website was wrong. And the owner was only willing to give a $10 discount even though her website was wrong and they were late. One of the braiders kept hassling me about if the new price was okay and called the owner to make sure I paid after she saw my frustration with this last minute change, although they should’ve honored what was on their website. Had I known at the start of my appointment that the price was wrong, I would’ve went somewhere else. I made an appointment online for 9am. Upon arrival to the shop, no one was there and I waited 30 mins for someone to finally show up. When I got there the owner and an additional braider started working on my head, but I was told that the reason why the owner had to be picked up and why they were late was because the other braider didn’t do box braids, so they should’ve included on the website times acceptable for this style if everyone isn’t capable of doing them. They overbooked themselves and had 3 heads to do with only 2 braiders in the store and although I was the first appointment of the day, my style was stopped countless times during my appointment to work on other’s hair that were regulars even though it was my first time here and I was the first appointment. Overall this establishment isn’t efficiently ran nor do they accurately advertise their services, so don’t come here unless you want to be bamboozled by fake prices and don’t have anything else to do with your day. I literally had to cancel all of my plans today because...
