Unfortunately, my husband did not have a pleasant experience living here compared to the high cost of renting. Despite being charged a $25 monthly fee for trash disposal, my husband’s trash was only disposed of 3 times. Parking spots near his building were often limited and he would have to park on the street outside of the complex to avoid a long walk. For multiple months during the winter, his heater was not working, forcing him to either suffer extremely cold temps or use emergency heat, which made his electric bill tremendous. Maintenance requests took awhile to be addressed, and despite having someone come to attempt patchwork type fixes on his heater 3 times, it was never fully resolved until shortly before moving out (at which point, it was warm enough to need AC which wasn’t working either). When you’re shelling out almost $1300/month, one would expect to have working heat/AC. Apartment management refused to subsidize or help with his extremely high electric bills, even though the cost was so high due to the faulty unit they refused to fully fix. When he first arrived, he was never given a key fob to access the pool and gym. After both were closed for COVID, he decided to let it go and not press the issue. However, upon checkout, he was asked for the key fob back. He let them know he never got one, which maintenance didn’t believe until looking it up and finding it was true. They apologized, and he was fine with it, until after moving out, he was charged a $30 fee for a key fob he never received. 🤦🏽♀️ after exchanging emails with Anna Mitchell who accused him of lying, as well as unreturned voicemails, he has still not received his money back. Obviously $30 won’t break the bank, but it’s still a matter of principle. Furthermore, when he first moved into the apartment, it was filled with a very smoky stench, the shower had black mold, and the carpet was very dirty, all of which bothered my asthma whenever I visited. Because of this, he had to move out sooner than the lease when we got married because it was unlivable given the severity of my asthma. We understand leases exist for a reason, but the management was completely inflexible with our situation, requiring us to pay the next 60 days worth of rent anyways as well as a fee which made it almost the same difference as keeping the lease for the final 3 months. We wanted to sublease the apartment to make up the difference, but we still wanted to make sure that was alright with the complex and they told us we weren’t allowed to. He was also charged a carpet cleaning fee even though the carpet was in bad shape when he first moved in. While Providence Place is at a great location with Providence shops and restaurants, Hwy 72, and 255 close by, we would still not recommend anyone live here because of the inflexibility of the management and the lack of integrity.
Update: Jana has been working on getting us a refund for the $30 fee, which is appreciated. I only wish the other issues could have been as easily resolved! But thank you to Jana for her patience...

Read moreThe location is great but the communication and management is beyond disappointing. A maintenance worker broke a sprinkler in an apartment on the third floor of building 8 on 4/23/24 flooding that apartment, the apartment on the second floor, and our apartment on the first floor. We had to vacate the apartment because it was unlivable and no one reached out to us to discuss what was needed, what the next steps were, etc. We had to initiate contact. Our lease was set to end in 6 weeks so it felt like they just didn’t care at all. They asked us if we could move across the country early and said “use your renters insurance” over and over. So if you live here make sure you have good renters insurance. Granted this was a crazy incident but it wasn’t the only issue we had while living here.
Summer of 2022 they renovated the apartment’s kitchens. They only notified us 6 days before the renovations were supposed to occur. My husband and I’s wedding was scheduled for that week and we were going to be out of state as neither of us are native to Alabama. We reached out asking for our renovation date to be changed because we have 2 cats. They said no problem that the renovations would happen on 6/20 so we could be there to secure our pets. Never showed. When I reached out they said they would move the renovations to July after we returned from our honeymoon. That didn’t happen. The workers still came on the normal schedule, stuffed one of our cats in a linen closet and then left him there. Our cat sitter couldn’t find him when they got off work. He was eventually found, shaking and traumatized. Both cats still hide every time someone knocks on a door or rings our doorbell when they previously were unfazed. The apartment said they would get the renovations team to apologize. It was ridiculous and incredibly frustrating. They say they are going to do something but make no effort to actually follow through.
Perhaps we just got unlucky in the 3 years we were there but I wouldn’t recommend. There are new apartments opening across from Taco Mama. Maybe check those out instead 🤷🏻♀️ I have videos of the actual flooding occurring but am unable...
