My USAA debit card was damaged the prior night by a server placing it in my to go bag at the CBC, the plastic warped by heat from a taco order, and thus Raely's chip readers couldn't read my Chip (7-Evelen's could) or my cards Mag Strip. I had to order a new card because USAA has no physical location in Incline, and that To Go taco order was the last of my money before pay day, which was today, so shopping at Raley's was my plan to get food to -eat- for not only today, but the week. All prior to a foot of snow falling.
I tried to take cash out from their Bank of America terminal, and it goes into anti-fraud mode because of my damaged card. No clerk or store manager was able to accept my card "because of policy" that they no can accept cards numbers printed on the front the every card on the planet, even though my bank said they could. I called Raley's customer service line and they recommended I use their online website to order food (insane that you have to manually input the number to do that). But guess what? It takes 24 hours to register to do that. I worked very hard to try to give this Raley's my money, in a situation where I was hungry, and about to be hit by a foot of snow, and they couldn't take it because "it is against policy".
Stores everywhere have to be able to take imprints of cards if the power goes out, and I know this Raley's has a generator, but generators can fail. Or if charges are disputed, I'm sure they would be willing to re-input a card number then. I also know they could've taken my card manually because they told me they could. It was simply "against policy" to do so. They could've even verified my card via phone with my bank if they were worried about fraud. They weren't. This locations staff was worried about the fact that they might have to do a little extra work to help a human being out. Including and up to the Store Manager, Michael Sinn, who I explained my situation to, and simply gave me the same answer all his employs did. Apparently thinking outside of the box isn't a strong point for Raley's Management.
I will literally spent an additional 15 minutes driving to Safeway every time I need groceries to avoid that level of terrible service for now on. I shopped at this Raley's every two weeks for 10 years+ I will now avoid doing so at every...
Read moreI would give negative stars if I could this place and their employees need retraining and or new friendly staff... I cannot believe this happened to me this past weekend. I'm in shock. I'm hurt. Embarrassed I feel dehumanized.
I walked up to pay. Handed the cashier my expired ID. Some stores let u get away with it. So I tried. The white lady took her time said nope. I can't sell it to you. I said okay well I have this.. handed her my USA resident alien card she took 1 look at it and threw it down. Said nope. Nope. Nope. I said excuse me? That is a legal us document with age verification... She said nope nope nope. So I said get your manager. So she YELLED for the manager. Manager came and looked at it told her, u can take it. She said nope nope nope. Again. Shaking her head saying no I'm not taking that. Manager brought a guide book to show her she could take it. And the lady kept saying NOO I will not take it ! I said, your manager AND your store guide book said u can take it, it's a legal document and proof of age. She said I will not take it.! The manager looked at me with like disgust and an "oh well" face said sorry sarcastically and walked away. Didn't help me at all. I asked her if her only motivation was racial and she stayed quiet. She was turning red, mad and completely stopped talking to me and wouldn't look at me. So I asked my friend to pay. But my god I was so embarrassed felt so dehumanized and hurt. It's 2022 and people still act this way. ? Not ok. The bag lady was Latina and she just shook her head at the cashier lady in disbelief... I said, wow how does it feel to be working for these racist bigots. And she shook her head at the cashier and stayed quiet. She looked down. Almost ashamed or scared to speak up. This lady needs to be fired. Raleys has many negative reviews about customer service and rude cashier's. What happened to me was beyond rude. It was completely unacceptable. Simply disgusting. I'm a model citizen, jumped through hoops to get legal and pay my taxes like all Americans.. to be treated this way.. disgusting. She needs to be fired and so does the manager (young male) who I believe was equally dismissive of me. raleys do better. I drive away in tears.. tears of sadness...
Read moreI’ve frequented this store often, since I live locally. I’ve never gotten the name, until recently, of a nice young lady who has worked here over the last few years (Emily), and has always been such a pleasure when she’s been my grocery checker. Today Emily went above and beyond by jumping in to help a new employee here at our local Raley’s, on a vacation work visa. The new employee bagged my groceries in a paper bag (per my request), and was definitely friendly and polite, but as I was leaving the register the handle to my bag broke, which resulted in two glass bottles, I had just purchased, breaking. Emily jumped in to support her fellow team mate and ensure the “flow of traffic” continued despite this unforeseen debacle. I wanted to show appreciation for what she did to help someone new to the environment (the new worker), while also showing compassion to the customers to ensure things still carried on despite what happened. I know during these times it’s hard to find people who even want to work so I want to say I absolutely adore and appreciate people like Emily who are willing to show up and help others. Thank you for your service Emily & to Raley’s in general….you ALWAYS give a much better experience than Safeway in KB ever does!!! Love what you do,...
