Walking into a business where everyone seems like they already know each other or are friends is very intimidating, especially when you feel like an outsider because you collect a smaller-market sport (UFC), don't have a big budget, and are newer to collecting. When I first visited, I certainly was not, and still am not, one of the guys who can walk in and afford to roll the dice on some of the more expensive hobby boxes. It initially felt like I was burdening the employees because I wasn't one of the guys who could afford to "sit at the table" and "collect something that actually matters or makes the shop money." I felt like a burden as a collector that wasn't one of the "big sports" (football, baseball, basketball) collectors.
A few months later I returned, please to see that they had UFC singles (more than just in the value/no top loader bin). When I returned, I did so quietly, and I heard a man say he was the store owner to people, so I watched how he worked, and his interactions were near-opposite of how I felt initially. His name is Andy, and he made sure to not only ask everyone their name, but he looked people in the eye, didn't rush through his interactions with them, etc. He would actually be present with the customer, even if it meant asking the other customers if they could patiently wait until he was done with the customer he was currently with. He naturally makes people feel like they're not just a number or potential source of revenue. That was amazing to see.
I have returned 4 times since initially leaving a less than pleasant review, and couldn't have better things to say about my interactions there. The coolest thing I saw was a young child approach Andy with a card that was honestly probably not valuable whatsoever, (it was a 90's basketball player that wasn't that rare), and watched Andy not only make the kid feel like his card was special, but explained the "why's" behind things, and excitedly made a trade that made the kid's trip to the store special, regardless of whether or not the card made his business...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me start by saying this is my favorite card store I have ever been to. I live in Illinois but do a lot of work in the Indianapolis area. I happened to stumble upon this gem while driving and I am very glad I did. Every time I am in town I make a point to stop there.
Here is why I think they are the best:
Prices and selection - they have a wide selection of cards from all sports. Their pricing is right in line with any store on online site. They accommodate those who want to buy cases, boxes, individual packs or single cards.
Grading - Not only do they offer a great price and multiple options to have your cards sent in for grading they offer great advice. I've done the research and their pricing is the best. The $2.00 per card is WELL WORTH the price to understand approximately where your cards will grade. Kevin is a surgeon when it comes to reviewing cards and can save you money and time. I had two identical cards and I am glad I sought his advice first to select the correct card to send in for grading.
The atmosphere - it's a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Positive vibes only and everyone is excited for you to pull the next big card. Although I have not attended they do all kinds of events that look like a great time. Everyone who works there has a passion for the hobby and you can feel it when you are in the store. It's a great place to ask questions...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy son ( ā¦and me :)) started his card-collecting journey at Indy Card Exchange, and I canāt thank Andy, his son Quinn, Shane, and Drew enough for their patience and warm welcome. Weāre just at the very beginning of this collectorās journey, yet itās amazing how they treat everyone the sameāwhether youāre a total beginner like my son (ā¦and myself) or a seasoned collector with years of experience. Their ability to manage expectations and provide thoughtful guidance for every level is unmatched.
The shop has such a welcoming, club-like atmosphereāit feels like youāre part of something special the moment you walk in. Sitting at the iconic Jordan bar, watching others, sharing excitement, and having fun together is such a unique experience. Even the more experienced collectors are incredibly kind and generous, offering tips and helping along the way. My son has claimed his own lucky spot at the bar to tear open packs, which has already become a fun little tradition for us.
What makes it even better is knowing that Indy Card Exchange is a small, family-owned local business. Supporting them isnāt just about cardsāitās about being part of a community that values kindness, passion, and connection. We couldnāt be happier to start this journey with them, and weāre so grateful to have such a gem right here...
