False Advertising at Its Finest – This Is NOT Thrifting!
I visited Thrifty Treasures on St. Andrews Road in Columbia, SC, expecting a thrift store experience—you know, thrifting: the joy of finding secondhand treasures at fair, affordable prices. But what I found was a major letdown and a clear case of misleading representation.
One vendor in particular caught my attention in the worst way. I spotted a vintage fairy lamp that I’ve seen for a fraction of the price elsewhere. Her prices? $80 and $120 for individual lamps. That is NOT thrifting—that’s antique store pricing at best, and gouging at worst. She looked at me and clearly knew the price was overblown but stood by it without shame.
Let’s get one thing straight: Thrifting (noun) – The act of shopping at thrift stores, garage sales, flea markets, etc., for secondhand items at affordable prices. This place has lost the plot entirely. If you're going to price like an antique store, then call yourself one. Don't masquerade as a “thrift” store to lure people in expecting deals and community-minded pricing.
It’s disappointing to see vendors taking advantage of trends and turning what should be a fun, accessible experience into a greedy cash grab. This is not what thrifting is about, and I won't...
Read moreI stumbled across this adorable place as I was traveling/ driving through the area and I am so happy I stopped. I found so many unique treasures. The place had a lovely vibe about it, I enjoyed exploring the little nooks and crannies. It's deceivingly large inside. Some antique/thrift stores are either full of junk OR have nice stuff and ridiculously overpriced. Thrifty Treasures had a great selection with a little bit of everything AND reasonable prices (sometimes surprisingly so, a few things I looked at the price tag like meh this is going to be expensive and was pleasantly surprised at how affordable). The ladies at the front counter were so friendly too. I definitely will stop by again every time I come by...
Read moreI really enjoyed going to this thrift shop last Sunday. To me it is more like an antique mall with boots set up that individual vendors are selling their items. Some of the vendors were actually there and you could haggle with them, which was pretty cool. Everything was very clean andthe prices were reasonable and clear. I really enjoyed looking around and seeing all that there was for sale. A nice mixture of both antique items, local artisan crafts, and just general cool stuff. I...
