Two star because I begrudgingly still shop here (convenience only). Much better when it was BiLo. Actually still miss BiLo. I have kinda gotten over some of the bothersome issues I had initially with the new owner. However I cannot stand the way in which they represent the pricing per pound, gallon etc. It is not easy to figure out when it is a 5oz but priced per gallon or pound. Similar products are often priced per differently which makes it even more difficult to compare items for best deal (I actually believe this is intentional). I really should not have stand there trying to convert prices in order to compare. The product should be priced per what ever the most common value is on the products, “standard unit pricing”. This is the only store that does this in my area. The aisles are a lot wider than most stores, this is not a good thing because they have a lot less inventory to offer the customer. Noticed this right away when it was reopened. They eventually added self check out, not initially on reopening. This is a good thing because I really felt like I went back in time 10 years or so and often would not stop because of having to stand in line, just for a few things on the way home from work. The last thing anyone wants to do when trying to get home after work. The last thing I’ll mention is the way in which the discounts are shown when checking out. I think they have slightly changed how it is represented on the receipt since reopening but once again you have to spend a little extra time and figuring out if you actually got the discounts that were advertised. They just seem to make things more difficult than other stores and I think it is intentional, they really don’t want you to know in hopes you stop caring so you won’t always get the best deal. They benefit more than you by...
Read moreGlad to see a Food Lion close to my home. Or so I thought. On April 6th I went in to purchase milk but also picked up 8 piece chicken from the Deli hot case. When I arrived home, realized the date was SELL BY April 6th. Meaning that it should have been pulled from the case no later than the morning of the 6th. I returned to the store the next day to speak to customer service about this. The chicken was lousy...soggy on the outside and dry on the inside. The young woman lied and said it was prepared on the 6th. As a retired food safety expert, I knew better than that. I asked to speak to a manager and it was someone I had met years ago. I was surprised and said ×××××, glad to see you, I'm Paul Jones! She curtly said I know who you are. I told her I just wanted to let them know about the dating policy violation. She told me to get more chicken, slammed it in a bag and put it on the counter. Then walked away. Lack of courtesy for sure! Went back 10/21/21 to buy a few things. Out of most vendor chips. No pork riblets. Frozen food essentially out of business, especially Stouffer entrees. Had to leave my empty shopping cart and went to Aldi, where I found everything I needed (in the Aldi brands). And, at Aldi all the employees spoke to me, whereas at Food...
Read moreThis location recently converted from a Bi-Lo to a Food Lion. The first few weeks were a tough transition for customers and employees alike. Since then though, the quality of the store has vastly improved. The produce department is probably the biggest improvement since the change. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and they offer a nice variety. There’s a nice wine selection and they offer items (beer, wine, mixes, etc) that aren’t typically found elsewhere. The meat department prices are below average and you can get a good cut of meat for a great price. The bakery doesn’t have a huge selection, but what they offer is usually good. Not a fan of the cake products though; they look so good, but are very dry (in my opinion). The deli is good overall, but it’s hit or miss with their products. The wings are very good, but the potato logs and chicken strips were soggy. This is probably due to how they’re packaged for a quick grab, but it spoiled them nonetheless. The rotisserie chickens are tasty and the items in the cooler in front of the deli counter are delicious. If you haven’t been to this location since the changeover, it’s well worth it to give them another try. Maybe stop in and grab something for dinner just to see the changes and how much improvement...
