United Studios of Self Defense Irvine-Northwood — Local services in Irvine

Many martial arts places exist and are as common as Starbucks.... But only one has an actual master teaching instead of some lower ranking instructor. United studios is a chain of schools that teaches a blend of karate, kung-fu, jujitsu and aikido, called shaolin kempo. But this little school's true gem is that a master of legendary skills teaches hear. Learning from him is like learning the art of directing from James cameron or Francis Ford Coppola. Lots of fun for children, lots of fun for adults and everyone in the middle. As for the very United studios way..... When you're a part of United studios, you are welcome to any of their studios around the country. Like 24 fitness. Lol. But what I love the most about shaolin kempo, is that I didn't have to adapt my body to it.... It is made to adapt to our bodies like stretchy socks. It's also realistic as it teaches defense from real life threats like knives, grabs, falling, multiple attackers, drunks with broken bottles, guns and even your basic street thug with his fists of rage. It is lethal for the needs and none lethal for the moments where the enemy is not dangerous. I once used my knowledge to subdue my mentally handicapped grandma until mom could give her the needed shots to stabilize her as she was unaware of her physical actions and was literally attacking us. Yes that's how useful the training is, how wonderful all united studios instructors are and how amazing Master Jack Turner teaches this...

I've been a student here for only a short amount of time, but the atmosphere , the teachers, and the positive energy has me absolutely entranced. I've learned so much over the course of my short time here, and I'll learn even more continuing on. Honestly, I was a bit nervous starting out - wondering if everyone was going to be strict, and harsh, and judge me if I wasn't good enough - but this dojo is the best positive environment for any person of any age to be in. I've been training here for over 20 years(!). Soke Jack Turner is the Michael Jordan of martial arts, and to my knowledge he's the only 9th-degree black belt who still teaches children. And he's great with them! My own son started here at age 4 or so.

Even though I've left Irvine, I still travel the 30-minutes each way for my lessons. You don't give up Michael Jordan just because he's a half-hour away. 😁

Great for kids, great for adults. Reasonably priced and well worth...
