The Win With Carolina One Vacation Rentals company has unlawful policies that goes AGAINST the American Disability Act (ADA) along with policies that go AGAINST AirBnb policies. We booked our house with them a few weeks ago. Per policy, we are not required to disclose a service animal, but we voluntarily informed the host at time of booking. Afterwards, they replied with a message and some inquiries.
Carolina One Vacation Rentals stated: "Documented Service Animals are welcome. You'll need a medical affidavit certifying the need for a service animal dated within 30 days of your reservation. Emotional Support Animals are NOT considered Service Animals. Guests with Emotional Support Animals must stay at a pet friendly property and pay a pet fee.” -- This request is a direct violation of ADA policy: "Staff cannot ask about the person's disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation" -- This is a direct violation of Airbnb policy: "We don't require documentation when traveling with an assistance animal." / "Airbnb defines assistance animals to include Emotional Support Animals." / “Please be aware that under Airbnb’s Nondiscrimination Policy, Hosts can’t charge extra fees to guests with an assistance animal.”
We then responded with the documentation of the ADA and Airbnb policy they had violated. Carolina One Vacation Rentals stated: "This being said, we are aware that Airbnb has their own definition for "support animal" and will allow your pet to accompany for your stay." -- They are aware of their violation of assistance animals and then persist in referring to our service animal as a "pet" rather than respecting our service animal as identified. Carolina One supervisor was called regarding violations. they responded: “We have different views on the policies” and "don't like your tone" in reference to the frustration expressed regarding the company's flagrant discrimination. Then they cancelled my reservation.
We then reported to Airbnb the violations identified. Airbnb response: “Based on the evidence provided, we have determined that the issue you reported was in violation of Airbnb’s Nondiscriminatory policy. We have reached out to Win With Carolina One Vacation rentals, informed them of the violation, issued a warning, and advised them that any future violations of our Nondiscriminatory Policy could lead to suspension or removal.”
Win With Carolina One Vacation Rentals is an unethical, discriminatory company that has violated disability rights as identified in ADA and Airbnb policy. These are the facts as stated above and quoted directly from ADA and Airbnb policies for reference. I am concerned that this company has not only discriminated against me as a guest but has also enforced these infringements on other guests. They are factually wrong and should not be allowed to continue...
Read moreOur family, parents and 5 adult children with families, have rented 918 Carolina Blvd for the past 5 years. The first year we had water leaking in through doors, doors that didn’t lock and overall poor maintenance. We really liked the location and size of the home so renewed for the following year. Improvements were made each following year with a few glitches along the way that were worked out. It became “our beach home” and many wonderful memories were made here. Each year we were given the option through email to renew our reservation for the following year. We never hesitated to do this until this year. When we failed to receive the usual email message a call was placed to Carolina One to reserve for next year. They informed us the house was already reserved for the week we usually get as well as for the entire month of July. When our disappointment was conveyed to them, they stated they had done nothing wrong. Legal and ethical are two different things. We are so disappointed and upset at the way we have been treated after being loyal and respectful renters. The property was always left in perfect condition. I suppose that doesn’t matter to Carolina One anymore. It would have cost them nothing to advise us of the change in policy so we could continue our vacation in a place we had grown to love. Instead, we were left scrambling on our last day trying to find another option for next year. See ya later Carolina One, good luck finding and keeping another client as...
Read moreFamily members rented 305 Carolina Blvd Isle of Palms in August 2019. House smelled moldy, sheets were dirty. Cut electrical wires on roof top deck, but power on. No AC on the main living floor. Window units were provided but temps were in access of 84 degrees. During a rainstorm water literally poured in through the roof, down the walls, through the light fixtures and air vents, now we know why it smelled like mold. We were told the "owner was in the loop". After suffering for 5 days Carolina One called other rental agencies and moved us to another home for our last day of visit. When we went back to 305 Carolina Blvd to the original rental to pick up items we forgot, we found family members of the owner using the pool. They said their mom told them we left the property. Clearly shows, the owner had no regard for our experience. Carolina One was somewhat slow to respond at first but said they would make it right financially through returning money. Hopefully, that will happen. Maybe they need to drop this house as a client? It shouldn't be rented in this condition. Also owner dropped the reservation on VRBO so it was impossible leave a review. He only has one review posted. We have plenty of photos and videos of the water pouring in. He owns several properties in the...
