This is what we come to Mount Pleasant for - it's always a highlight of our visit, and we usually visit multiple times during our stay. This time was different and didn't leave a good impression. I think this 1 visit is the last one for a very long time.
Is there new management or a new chef? Calimari wasn't the same - had a bit of a strong taste and the usually thin fried lemon slices are a really big plus that puts this dish over the top. This time the lemon slices were thick and not fried crispy. Really couldn't eat them.
We ordered protein for the children's pasta for $3 extra, and the tiny sliver of chicken that came in a separate dish was about the size of my little finger. It was embarrassing to think that sliver was even charged as extra.
I order the entree of grilled scallops and chose the extra charge for pimento cheese grits. Unfortunately they were delivered without the pimento grits, and I alerted the lady when she placed them in front of me. She went and informed our server who came and offered to bring out a separate bowl of pimento cheese grits. But the entree scallops had already been plated on top of the white grits (which I didn't want and didn't order). No, I don't want a separate bowl - I want the entire entree plated correctly like I ordered. Yes, they removed my entree, took it back to the kitchen and when it came back out it did have the correct pimento cheese grits - but it was only half the amount of white grits that were there originally delivered. The light sauce that was there over the scallops originally was now gone and the scallops were now luke warm.
They obviously took my plate and just used all the same ingredients instead of remaking and replating.
May sound picky - but this is a top notch place and things like that just don't happen here...at least not that I've ever seen. They just weren't excellent as usual.
Just all around - not a very nice meal. We were planning a couple more visits during our stay in Wild Dunes, but I think our plans are now to visit some of the other excellent restaurants around the area.
I sure hope these problems are corrected because this is one of our favorite...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of dining at Acme on the Isle of Palms, a charming Lowcountry restaurant that has been a staple in the area for years. We made a brunch reservation for 2 PM, which was a perfect time since they stop serving brunch around 3 PM. The restaurant even reached out to us to see if we could come a bit earlier, which we appreciated and were happy to accommodate. We were seated in their exterior screened dining area. Initially, we were concerned it might be too warm, especially with the temperature at 92°, but they have about 25 large fans and ceiling fans that keep the space well-ventilated and comfortable.
For our meal, my wife enjoyed the shrimp and grits with sausage, and she particularly loved the shrimp! I opted for the original breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, house fries (which were excellent breakfast potatoes), and sausage patties. The sausage was average and didn't stand out, but the French toast I ordered as a side was absolutely phenomenal. If I were to return, I would definitely stick with the French toast. My dad had the shrimp and grits with lobster and was thoroughly impressed.
Our waiter was attentive and kept our water glasses full, ensuring we stayed hydrated throughout our meal. Overall, our experience was fantastic, and we will certainly be returning. Acme deserves a well-deserved five stars for its excellent service and delicious food.
—Opportunities for Restaurant Improvement— Reconsider the quality of the sausage provided. Invest in glass water pitchers instead of plastic ones to enhance the dining experience. Add walnut wood to cover the spray insulation on the ceiling of the outdoor space for a more polished and...
Read moreThe wait here is always long but we go every time we visit mount pleasant because it's just so good!! Their cocktails are great and will hold you over while you wait for your table. You can sit inside their newly renovated inside space or sit out on the enclosed porch area. There also seems to be new management and they have made some positive changes. The service was great, hey had some new menu choices, new renovations, and a new hosting system that sends a text to your phone when your table is ready. Food was also out in a very timely manner even though they were super busy. They serve breakfast, brunch and dinner. Parking can be a bit of a challenge so if you can walk from one of the hotels, I suggest doing that. Now for the food...yum! My kids had the buttered noodles with chicken on top as well as the French toast and sausage from the kids menu. They ate pretty well so it must have been a good kiddo choice! I had the shrimp and grits with the fried tomatoes. It's was rich and creamy and the shrimp was huge! My husband had the The Dozer. It's his favorite and it didn't disappoint this time! It's fried eggs and fried chicken served over a biscuit that is smothered in sausage gravy. The homefries are a perfect with it. Last, my mom had the BBQ shrimp and grits. It comes with Gouda cheese and 2 fried grit cakes all drizzled with BBQ sauce. If you're a BBQ sauce lover, maybe ask for an extra side of sauce! We also had the fried brussell sprouts. The flavor was so good and they weren't oily at all but they were undercooked. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely visit again the next time...
