The Co-Op Gourmet Sandwiches — Restaurant in Isle of Palms

Don’t bother ordering ahead. When we arrived, the staff member asked what kind of frosé we wanted because those are poured to order (not the problem). We told her we ordered a 24 oz bottle (as reflected on our receipt taped to the food bag) and were fine with the original flavor, and she began to pour a 16 oz bottle. We noticed and stopped her before she filled it all the way up and again, this wasn’t a big deal as mistakes happen. As she was pouring the correct size bottle, we opened our food bag to drop in some napkins and noticed we only had one sandwich. We told her we were missing a sandwich and she asked what one we ordered. We told her the name of it and she said that they were out of that sandwich that day and stated that they didn’t have a way to call us to inform and get something different started. She asked what alternative sandwich we wanted and we chose but told her “No bacon”. It took 20 minutes to get the new sandwich, on top of the 20 minutes we were already there during the frosé mix-up, during which the sandwich issue could have been addressed and already been on the grill. She handed the new sandwich to us and said “No modifications, right?” and we said “No bacon”, to which she made a face like well, we’ll see if the cook remembered that and shrugged it off. Also, I had ordered my sandwich with no cheese and of course it came with cheese.

TL;DR, order when you get there and be prepared to wait 40 minutes to maybe get what...

Let me verse this by saying….this was my first ever time trying Co-Op which was super random being that it was through Uber Eats. I ordered the Italian with a side of red wine vinegar chips. Ordered it at around 1130 am and it didn’t show up until close to 1:00 pm. I don’t fault Co Op at all for this. I totally get it. Uber Eats was behind in drop offs and ditched out $5 bucks for their lateness. Those Holy City red wine vinegar chips didn’t come with either….just to note. Again, mistakes happen. We’re all human.

However…..That Sammie. Holy moly. 🤤 It was late, cheese cooled and sandwich barely warm but dang….she was delectable AF! 🇮🇹 Totally amazing and deliciously prepared. The flavors were top notch. Panini bread….Italian meats, on point. I honestly expected a soggy less than palatable sandwich. Sitting in the establishment writing this review because today the iop location was severely understaffed. I put in my order online and I got a text saying it was ready. I have been sitting here for 30 minutes. The people around me have been sitting here for 45 minutes. The one poor employee was having to take orders, answer the phone, get frose, and package to go orders and obviously could not keep up. The only other person in view is a line cook just making a pile of bacon. The employee is unable to help people and cannot communicate very well. He is obviously overwhelmed and this is not his fault. I’m extremely disappointed because I have never seen this location in such bad shape.
