Optimist Ice Arena — Local services in Jackson

Went here on January 5, 2019 for a birthday party. I rented skates and when I turned in my skates when the party was over, each shoe had a very long fresh straight cut (clearly from an ice skate). I am sure it was an accident, but when i spoke with Don, he didn't apologize at all,l. He took pictures and my phone number and said he would "investigate" it. It took me three weeks to finally get in contact with Don. In that three weeks I called 6 times, left three voicemails on his phone and three messages with the front desk for him to call me back, never once hearing back from him) It wasn’t until today when I called for the seventh time that I finally was able to speak with him. He said there was no way an ice skate would cut my shoes like that. Clearly looking at the pictures attached he was wrong and I called him out on it. Then he said “well your shoes are really old”. I called him out again,the shoes have a manufactured date of 9/2017 so not even 1 1/2 yrs old. Then he said there is no way that could happen because the shoes are kept in their own separate box away from other skates. (Tempted to go in and take pictures of this because I’m sure that is no true either) I’m 99.9% sure he is the one that accidentally cut my shoes. I have worked in customer service for over 14 years and I know people ask for the moon. All I was looking for was an apology, but clearly ego is more important than customer service. Truly disappointed, because we did have a fun time and we were looking forward to having a lot more fun there, but definitely will...

It's an older ice rink but it's definitely better than most of them that I have visited. The concession stand is miles above most of them. From chicken tenders to hamburgers and hot dogs and fries. Tons of options, and the popcorn is definitely better than 99% of those other stands, I can honestly say that I haven't found better yet. As for the prices at the stand, they are wayyyyy better than all of the others. You get what you pay for. The ice rinks are not as nice as some but like I said this is an older building. They are definitely doing the best they can. The ice rink is in the middle, not the best but definitely not the worst. So if you go there just remember to expect a middle of the road ice rink. I went in early November to my granddaughter s birthday party. Unfortunately I got accidentally kicked with an ice skate by a 9 yr old. Thank goodness it was me that got kicked and not one of the nine year olds as it would have done more serious damage. The manager/owner Dave came over with first aid kit and said “oh it’s just a flesh wound”. Well it was not just a flesh wound. I went to walk in and they stitched it the best they could because it was very deep. Three months later I’m still healing and there were infections and now possible nerve damage and not once did anyone from the Ice Arena contact me to inquire how I was doing, so why take my phone number?
