After speaking with my therapist and processing my emotions, I can finally speak about the uneventful situation that happened to my friend and me on Thursday, July 7, 2023, at Soul Spa. For the past couple of months, I have worked nonstop as a provider servicing the patients in my community. I was finally able to take a break from work, and the first thing I wanted to do was to plan a relaxing spa day to unwind and relax. I’ve booked with soul spa numerous times, and I’ve never had a problem, but this visit was different. Let me start by saying that my massage therapist, Josh, was amazing. I 100% would recommend him to anyone walking. He was very professional and delivered superior service. My issue lies with the manager, Stephanie, and one of her employees (I was unable to get her name). While my friend and I were sitting in the relaxation room alone, Stephanie approached us. Stephanie informed us that there was a new policy in place that called for no phones to be in the relaxation room. I had no problem with this statement and proceeded to put my phone away. My problem lies with the remarks that were made afterward. Stephanie continued to tell my friend and me that we were loud and that we needed to tone it down before her “regulars” arrived in the next 20 minutes. She continued to say the “regulars” were very particular about the relaxation area, and they liked it quiet and would complain if it wasn’t. This statement left me feeling as if I wasn’t a valued customer and that I wasn’t enough. I pride myself in being a respectful young adult, and due to the ridicule and stereotypes placed upon African Americans, I have been forced to try to live in a way that is appealing to my counterparts. I never thought I would have to experience a situation like this. I am tired. In 2023, I should not have to ask myself, “Am I not enough?”. The services that were rendered to me were not free. I paid just like every other customer. We should all receive the same treatment, whether a “regular” or a first-time customer. I must admit, that comment was very triggering for me and has left me in a state of shock since Thursday. As if that wasn’t enough, I felt as if an employee was assigned to “watch” my friend and me as we tried to continue relaxing. To make matters worse, the “regulars” never showed up, and my friend and I were forced to listen to construction work that was happening less than 20 feet from us. We were simply trying to make the best of our situation and enjoy ourselves. I am so disappointed and honestly will not be back to this establishment. I hope the necessary steps are taken to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. Maybe place a sign in the relaxation room stating digital devices are not allowed, or perhaps discuss the rules when the customer arrives at the spa. Just please do not state to another customer your reasoning for such a request which was to please...
Read moreI recently visited Soul Spa for the first time during a visit to Jackson and was happy to experience this type of spa in the area. It is inside of a hotel but has a separate entrance if preferred. The staff was courteous and attentive and very area of the spa was clean and very serene. The dressing room includes lockers, restrooms, showers, and a sauna. The robes and slippers were comfortable. I was able to relax in the relaxation room prior to and after my massage service where I was served tea and you can have light snacks (as well as order directly from the hotel bar/restaurant).
Overall a great experience but the reason for my rating is that the massage room was very cold and thus not comfortable or relaxing. I alerted the masseuse who also agreed even mentioning that her hands would be cold because of it - when she checked the thermostat it was 65 degrees in the room (during a winter time visit to the spa). Although the massage table was heated I was nearly nude and thus very cold during the massage session. The masseuse attempted to change the temperature but it did not rise...
Read moreMy experience at the spa was excellent! I love the atmosphere and the massage therapist made me feel very comfortable. However, things went left when it was time to pay. I do not recommend paying with a card at this place. I paid for my service, the money came out of my account, and the card reader said that the payment declined. I showed where the money had been withdrawn. The staff insisted that I added a card to charge me in case the payment didn’t go through even though I showed them where it had. They repeatedly called me asking for a card to put on file “just in case”. I really got harassment vibes as if I was trying to scam or steal when their payment processor was the problem. I didn’t want to start declining their calls to add to the agony either. They even asked if it was okay to charge my friend’s card despite me constantly telling them that they payment was taken from me. The relaxing experience that I did get from my massage was retracted by their antics. Recommended only if you...
