Roller City — Local services in Jacksonville

I am very disappointed with the management at this location. I have been going to this location for over 24 years and have never had a problem until today. What is the difference you ask? I went with my children. we were there for maybe 40 minutes. Loud music, lots of people, a lot going on so my son started to have some anxiety, so of course I pick him up to comfort him. I roll along the wall to try and show him that its ok and supposed to be fun. One of the staff members walks up while I'm trying to cheer my son up and says "You can't hold him with skates, give him to me" Now I don't know about you other parents but if my child is already on the verge of an anxiety attack, I'm for sure not going to hand him to a stranger, so I said "I'll walk over and give him to my sister-in-law" which I did, I took a few steps and handed him to my sister-in-law when I hear this woman yelling at me like im a dog. (now mind you, there is not a single sign in this place that says not to hold your kids while your wearing skates) I tried to explain to her that I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, i was trying to comfort my son. She wasn't having it, she continued to yell and talk over me until I finally gave up trying to explain myself. The lady was very rude, condescending, and totally unprofessional. Oh and did I mention i was there with a birthday party that was about half of the patrons present at the location. It is very disappointing, I show the utmost respect to every person I meet, I work 70 hours a week and am a single parent, I get to go out with my children and do something like this once, maybe twice a year, the way the management handled it was totally unprofessional and incompationate, to the point that I felt attacked over the whole situation, I didn't feel like I was a person to her at all throughout the whole event, like i said before she talked to me like a dog and treated me as such and for a "Family friendly" establishment they are very incompationate and clearly do not understand what it is like to have children. So, in short don't take your family here, you are just a dollar sign to them and will not respect you as a person at all, I feel attacked and degraded and as a patron for over 24 years, I am very appalled at the way the management chose to handle this situation.

I did not ignore anyone, incase you werent aware it is loud iin there, and i was worried about keeping my child calm, and the big sign of rules by youre entrance states nothing of the such, and when I was approached I understood why she didn't want me holding him, but she didn't understand I was trying to tend to my child, and if that was the owner that is even sadder because not a single professional action came from her. Allow me to refresh your memory, It was nowhere near 50 steps and when I was close to the wall rather than taking another step, and having my foot hit the wall, i opted to roll. And of course they apologized, they had no idea how your staff approached me about it and handled it, and only caught...

WOW!!! Talk about the best roller skating rink in NC!! After reading some of the recent reviews, I am baffled by how ignorant some people can be! I love roller city! I have been skating at roller city 3 times so far and have had nothing but a good time every time. For starters, the rink quality is very high. I have been skating a lot of places where the rink has dents or some danger areas to avoid, which is very unsafe for beginner skaters and very unprofessional. Roller city's skating rink is made of quality wood which can be felt in the skates, the next nearest rink is the one in New Bern and its made out of plastic which is not the best material for skating (If you have roller skated on both, then you know exactly what I'm talking about). Additionally, roller city has very reasonably priced concessions with a wide variety for whatever you are in the mood for. I'm really happy to see that the concessions are not over priced like many other roller rinks, I've seen some places sell a slice of pizza for 5$!!! The staff have always been very friendly with me and provide very good service. They are also very aware of what's happening on the rink at all times, I saw a kid fall pretty hard and the rink was cleared immediately so as to not cause further tumbles and no further injuries for the kid. Another time someone spilled a drink on the rink and the area was cleared hastily as to not cause any accidents. As for seating and comfort, roller city offers a wide variety of seating that goes from their food area tables, seating all around the rink, and party rooms with large tables to provide additional seating. There has always been more than enough room to relax when you are not skating. I read a lot of reviews where people came ON CHRISTMAS and were complaining about how crowded it was and how there wasn't much seating. This is why I mentioned people were ignorant earlier, if you have any sense at all or have ever worked in the food/retail industry you understand THAT HOLIDAYS ARE GOING TO BE BUSY LOL. Of course its going to be crowded! I think my favorite part about roller city is the community that they have built. Every time I go I see the same people smiling and having fun skating around the rink just there to hang out. Its great to see a business that has loyal and returning guests because that's how you know that they are treated well. The community has always been very polite and kind towards me and my party. The community is also including the staff, I can tell that they really enjoy working at such a nice spot. Overall, roller city is without a doubt the best roller skating rink I have ever been to. From the rink quality, prices, staff, comfort, and community it all comes together to make a great experience. I will gladly drive an hour just to skate at the best establishment around, kudos...

Be careful of taking your children here or you accompanying them! The staff is very subjective of whom they choose to allow in on a constant basis even when there were issues from the same group of children before. I usually wouldn’t leave a review but in the event of my family’s safety coming into question ONCE AGAIN it has to be done for the community’s consumption. You cannot expect for people to be poked and prodded by a certain race/group of individuals and they are allowed to play victim, time and time again, after stirring up chaos and still yet allowed on the premises! But the other parties are at fault due to their reaction! Please keep in mind that the staff allowed these delinquents on the property AGAIN even after police were involved BEFORE. Not surprised by US being banned, let’s be honest, this has never happened before but there are also far better places to frequent your time and energy besides here! BEWARE!

UPDATE: I don’t take kindly to threats especially when you’re LOUD, INDIRECT, and WRONG! If you were in fear of anyone’s safety or so worried about the safety of your business, after the last said incident that wasn’t addressed in your subjective response, WHY WEREN’T THE SAME KIDS BANNED BEFORE??? That is the leading question that could’ve solved a multitude of the issues that occurred from the gate. To still get on here and BLATANTLY LIE is so unbecoming of a business that barely has visible camera footage in the matter of life or death(in which it was due to 3 teenagers jumping one) I don’t know what YOU saw, but those are cut and dry FACTS! So please, it’s funny that me being prior law enforcement as well as speaking to the Officers, this was open, closed and shut!
