My experience was absolutely HORRIBLE !!! While I acknowledge that Shonnette, appear to be a kind individual, I found her professionalism and communication skills to be lacking.
As a new client, I take full responsibility for not initially seeing the requirement for masks in her establishment on Booksy. However, I was taken aback by the manner in which this requirement was communicated to me, especially in front of another customer whose hair she was working on. As a healthcare provider with advanced qualifications (Nurse practitioner DNP), I have no issue with adhering to safety protocols such as wearing a mask. However, I was concerned by your apparent belief that it is sufficient to wear a mask solely over the mouth, neglecting the nose, particularly in the context of COVID-19 precautions.
Furthermore, she notified me that I needed to sanitize my hands prior to touching the bathroom door, so it would prevent her from wiping down the door after customers. requiring customers to sanitize their hands before touching the doorknob does not provide adequate protection against infections such as C-Diff that hand sanitizer alone may not prevent. Just a little education on that part if you’re sole purpose is to have infection control under wraps.
My next concern arose when, despite arriving promptly for my 2:45 appointment, I was made to wait for an extended period. When I inquired about the delay and expressed my preference to wait in my car until she was ready to start on my hair, I was met with an unfriendly attitude. Given that we were already 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment time and your previous customer's service was not yet complete, I felt my time and comfort were not being respected.
I regrettably waited for an additional 32 minutes past the scheduled time before the stylist attended to me. Upon her arrival, she promptly informed me that she would not be able to perform the service already paid for. While I acknowledge the importance of a positive and harmonious atmosphere in such establishments, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION remains paramount.
It is disheartening to note that despite the evident potential of the salon shop's facilities, the overall professionalism fell short of expectations. This experience unfortunately echoes a recurring pattern observed in many African-American hair salons.
In conclusion, while I appreciate your dedication to safety and hygiene practices, I believe there is room for improvement in how these policies are communicated and implemented. I hope that my feedback will be taken constructively and contribute to enhancing the overall customer experience...

Dear Breona C,
I must clarify that I'm the customer whose hair Shonnette was working on during your visit. I must admit that Shonnette greeted you kindly upon your arrival and requested that you wear a mask before entering the salon, as it is a mandatory safety protocol. It's also important to note that during your visit, Shonnette had to briefly attend to a family involved in a car accident, showing her caring nature and concern for others.
I understand your concerns regarding communication and professionalism during your visit. However, it's crucial to consider all aspects of the situation, as unforeseen circumstances can sometimes affect the scheduling and service process. Shonnette has been providing exceptional service to me and my family for approximately 10 years, and we have always been satisfied with her work and professionalism.
I know that Shonnette values your feedback and will use it to enhance their customer experience and communication processes. She strives to ensure that everyone of their clients feels respected and cared for during their visit to Styles of Grace Hair Studio.

Read moreBeen coming to Styles of Grace for 4 years now. I moved from NYC in 2019 and I didn't know anyone in Jacksonville. I didn't know who to turn to for natural hair or dread styling and after a year of zero maitinece my head was a mess. I thought I'd have to cut off my hair. I was frustrated, annoyed and sad and by what seems like a miralce I randomly, saw her shop and sign out front. I gave it a try. I was worried, I told her how I was and prepared to cut all my hair and start over. Shonnette reassured me she could work with me. She detangled, scrubbed, and gave purpose back to my dreads. Shoot, she even gave me a piece of my confidence back that day too. She is not only knowledgeable but also her calming energy and reassurance created a client in me, for life. I never leave reviews like this but if you are new in town or just confused with a neglected head of hair (trust me I've been there) then stop by. Years later my scalp health is at an all time high and my dreads have grown faster longer and are better off now, than when I...
