Royal Sushi in Chicago is a testament to the art of sushi, bringing an exceptional dining experience that stands head and shoulders above the rest. From its flawless execution of traditional Japanese techniques to its contemporary, refined atmosphere, the restaurant exemplifies what it means to offer world-class sushi. Located in one of Chicago's most dynamic culinary neighborhoods, Royal Sushi is not just a restaurant—it’s a destination for those seeking a true sushi experience that is both an exploration of taste and a celebration of craftsmanship.
Upon entering, the sleek, minimalist design immediately communicates the restaurant's commitment to quality and simplicity. The subtle yet elegant décor creates a serene environment, allowing guests to focus entirely on the sensory experience that unfolds with each course. The sushi bar, where diners can watch the chefs at work, is the focal point of the space, providing an intimate connection between the craftsmanship of the chefs and the guests. It’s here that the artistry of sushi is brought to life—each plate a masterpiece, every ingredient carefully selected and prepared with intention and precision.
What truly sets Royal Sushi apart is the quality of its ingredients. Sourcing the freshest fish from the world’s finest purveyors, the restaurant takes pride in the integrity and vibrancy of its offerings. The fish arrives daily, ensuring optimal freshness, and the chefs take great care to age certain cuts of fish to unlock deeper flavors and more tender textures. The meticulous process of selecting ingredients is reflected in the sushi’s flavor profile, where every piece is a perfect balance of freshness, richness, and complexity.
The menu at Royal Sushi is thoughtfully curated, offering a balance between classic nigiri, sashimi, and innovative creations that push the boundaries of traditional sushi. For those seeking a truly exceptional experience, the omakase menu is the crown jewel of the restaurant. With this multi-course tasting menu, the chefs guide diners through a carefully orchestrated progression of flavors, textures, and temperatures, each dish revealing new nuances as the meal unfolds. From the first bite to the last, the omakase is a journey of discovery, showcasing both the chefs' technical skill and their creativity.
One standout feature of Royal Sushi is its masterful handling of nigiri. The fish is sliced with surgical precision, each piece a perfect balance of fish to rice. The rice itself, a critical component of sushi, is seasoned just right—vinegar, salt, and sugar in harmonious proportions—so that it complements the fish without overpowering it. Each piece is a delicate dance of textures: the buttery smoothness of toro, the sweet freshness of amberjack, the satisfying crunch of a well-executed tempura topping. The level of detail and commitment to excellence in every nigiri piece is nothing short of extraordinary.
Royal Sushi is equally adept at offering a wide range of traditional Japanese dishes that elevate the dining experience. The appetizers, from creamy miso soups to delicate tempura, all demonstrate the restaurant’s expertise in Japanese cuisine beyond sushi. The quality of each dish is remarkable, and the flavors are balanced and refined. The miso soup, for example, is an umami-packed delight that sets the tone for the meal, while the tempura is light and crisp, never greasy, with vegetables and seafood that are perfectly fried to maintain their natural sweetness.
Sake and wine pairings are an integral part of the experience at Royal Sushi, and the staff goes above and beyond in curating the perfect match for each dish. The restaurant boasts an impressive selection of premium sake, which is offered in a range of styles—from light and fruity to rich and full-bodied—ensuring that every guest can find a drink that complements their meal. The staff’s knowledge of sake is unparalleled, and their recommendations are both thoughtful and spot-on. For those who prefer wine, the wine list is similarly impressive, with a curated...
Read moreOne of my worst experiences with with all you can eat sushi with my family. The quality of sushi not very good. It' took over 30 Minute to get our first sushi. They did bring out for miso and salads right away. The rice falls apart before you can get to your mouth. The interesting thing is that they have two robotic servers bringing you your sushi. The woman that was taking over did not know English. Could not understand any of my questions. The woman that was serving didn't seem like she would fear the table and take your dishes unless you move them to the side. She didn't want to be bothered by it and had to wait on many other people. So at times your dishes stacked up so there was not much tablespace. My son eats octopus and they serve it on rice. She looks at the leftover rice and says no no. Did not know if I was going to be charged at that point because they say 50 cents a slice if not eaten. It's obvious no one checks the bathrooms for cleanliness. After I eat had to go so bad don't know if it was from the food. The men's bathroom was out of order the toilet was overflowing with crap so was forced to use the women's room. And it was time for my son that wanted dessert. He wanted ice cream and they charge normally $4 for this little cup of ice cream chocolate milk or strawberry. I asked the woman if this is included in the all you can eat because it contradicts on the menu saying ice cream is not included. Could not understand her and could tell she didn't want me asking her questions she didn't know English again. I definitely will not be going back here. They're posting is on the outside door window and even all around the restaurant mentioning give us a review and you could say 10% on the check. Just let the server know. I didn't care to say 10% I needed to give my real review on this and let people know my...
