$50 surprise surcharge for not wanting a stranger to have administrative access to my computer, or otherwise completely void my rights to a warranty for the work, is the only reason I took stars off.
I have no idea who is working on it, shouldn't be asked to blindly trust someone that I don't know, and nobody should have to wonder if they're going to walk away with malware, like a bitcoin miner on a nice gaming rig. That's not super out of the question.
The tech claimed they had to put an operating system on a hard drive and swap mine out to run diagnostic software. I'm a DevOps engineer, and I've been around the block. Portable executables of the diagnostic tools on a bootable USB stick is a thing this shop should have just lying around. It's possible he was dumbing it down because he thought I was tech illiterate but if that's the case, they charged me $50 to put a USB stick in and hit F8 a few times.
Shouldn't ever need to ask a customer for their pin or password unless it's required for the work, which it absolutely was not in my case, and the warranty ultimatum raised the alarms in my head and left me feeling immediately uneasy about even having left my hard drive in there for two days. Not a great feeling.

When I went in today, March 8th, the guy behind the counter claimed to have called me, but I have had no missed calls and have no voicemail. They also have my email address, in the event that they couldn't reach me by phone. When I arrived, I could see my laptop sitting on a desk in the back. They had not opened up or started working on it. I asked for my laptop back, and will be taking it somewhere else. It's very frustrating to have lost my primary laptop for an entire month and now I still have to take it somewhere else to get it fixed because either they forgot about it or were very busy and were unwilling to call (and leave a voicemail), text or email me.
