I have a long history in Salon & Day Spa ownership/management and, consequently, I am VERY particular about my hair. In my experience, men's haircuts are far more precision-based than women's. Like trimming a bonsai tree, one slip of the sheers during a men's cut can upset the symmetry of the entire thing. On a long head of hair, tiny mistakes can be more easily corrected or camouflaged. So, I've always found that the most precise haircuts, haircuts that will grow out flawlessly, come from extremely experienced stylists who specialize in men's haircuts.
I have been a long-time Sports Clips patron. After my original stylist, Glenda, left the company, I bounced around from stylist to stylist for a while, always getting good haircuts, but never really finding my groove with anybody. Then my older brother returned home looking incredibly dapper from a haircut at Sports Clips one afternoon and was like, "Matt, you HAVE TO go get your hair cut by Tigi!"
Almost immediately, I went in and requested Tigi, armed with two example pictures and a detailed verbal description of all the picky little things that I wanted. I told her that, in spite of wearing my hair short, I don't like the way clipper cuts grow out, so I would prefer it if she cut my hair "scissor over comb." She proceeded to give me one of the most precise, textbook, PERFECT haircuts I have ever had or witnessed being performed. It wasn't the same old haircut that she gave to the five guys before me and that she would end up giving the next five guys who were after me, it was entirely my own haircut. It was a truly personalized experience. She is legitimately an artist.
When it came down to the finishing touches, I like a lot of texturizing; however, I am not a huge fan of texturizing sheers. I asked her if she would be comfortable "point cutting" to texturize and she didn't even pause for a moment. She proceeded to chip into my hair with her comb and sheers with the precision of a surgeon. After I saw that, I knew I was in incredible hands. I barely even looked up to see what she was doing anymore after that, because she had my full confidence. I just let her do her thing. When she was done, I was completely blown away.
It was one of those haircuts that almost causes you to get into a car accident on the way home because you can't stop admiring it in the rearview mirror. I have a pretty significant social media following; so, when I got home, I casually posted a selfie accompanied by the caption, "How do you guys like the new do?" then I walked away from my phone for about an hour. The next time I picked it up, I saw that my photo with Tigi's haircut had gotten in excess of 200 reactions in just 55 minutes.
Nowadays, nobody touches my hair but Tigi. NOBODY! She even took a second of her own time, the other day, to teach me some tricks about caring for my beard and introduced me to some fantastic beard products that have been total game changers for me.
As someone who knows his stuff, I can definitely say that Tigi has an exceptional talent. Her technique is impeccable. She just gets it. Some things you can teach and some things you just can't. Tigi has that special, unteachable je ne sais quoi that would make her an indispensable asset to even the most high-end salons. She is the find of the century! Tigi, you have my business for the rest of my...
Read moreApparently the waitlist means nothing. I previously had a great experience with Tigi for my son.
So, today At 3:40pm I saw there was about a 45 min wait for her, but I hopped on the waitlist and planned to do errands nearby to kill time. I have an active 3-year-old. I figured he'd rather be active than sit and wait for his haircut.
At 4:11pm, I had just finished at Target and headed to Sport Clips. Just as I pulled in my parking spot, I got the "your stylist is estimated to be ready in 15 minutes," text message. Great timing mom, yay!
We went inside and let the staff know we were there. Like always, we put our phone number into the touch pad. The board updated to show we were in-store. We were the only ones showing "in store" and Tigi just finished her client. Reasonably, I inferred we were next. She then took one of the older boys with last name T. (Lucas T or Jason T. from pic). But I pointed to the board (pic shown) and indicated we should be next - we were the only ones who checked-in. Tigi then said the family of 2 older boys with last name T, had stepped out to Starbucks but just returned so they are next. The dad of the two boys indicated he didn't know how to show they arrived (so he can get name on Sportclips online waitlist and purchase Starbucks but can't put his phone number in to show he is in-store...um sure).
It was fruitless to argue because it fell on deaf ears. Tigi ignored the waitlist board.
She offered to let my son wait an additional 20 mins for his haircut, but considering the waitlist was previously...
Read moreJust got a haircut from a girl who seems to still be training, and is new. Her name was Rebecca and couldn't cut hair for the life of her. Girl just ruined my hair for the next couple weeks. How are you going to train somebody on a customer? I know you need a degree but at least put them through a test first or something. This is not the first time I've had my hair completely butchered at this location, get more consistent. The only reputable thing about her is that she was nice, and that goes for more than a couple of the hair stylists at this location, and is thus the reason for the 1 star, otherwise I'd have to find a way to give you zero. They could also barely work their checkout, had a guy standing there for a solid few minutes trying to pay for a damn haircut. Switching to Rooster's. Was a customer for over a year and can't stand getting a hit or miss haircut...
