This was my first and last time at the Katy location. I have been to the SanFelipe location several times, and even had the one in Finn Hall. First problem with Katy was the total lack of service. I was sat at 6:33, I know because I sent a text to a friend after being seated. We did not have a person come by until after 6:45. I insisted we give it another few minutes before walking out, big mistake on my part. It was not busy. We were the second table inside, and there were only 2 outside. We could hear the staff conversing behind us. Someone finally noticed us and a bartender came over and took our drink order. Over 10 minutes later we are finally brought water and then minutes later our server whom we had not yet met brought our drinks. She took our order and we were stuck at that point. We should have known better than to stay when a place is empty on a Friday night in LaCenterra. It took longer to get water than it did for me to find a place to park, at this place that is super hard to do.
I ordered the farm plate with the steak and the Mac n cheese, with our favorite appetizer in all of houston, the pretzels and queso. The appetizer did not disappoint and is the only reason they deserve the 1 star. The steak was pathetic, it had large veins of fat and gristle through the middle, there was maybe 4oz of edible meat. I love fat in a steak, but this was not the edible kind. The other issue was they forgot the seasoning, it didn’t even have salt on it. It was so bland and tasted off, whatever part they gave was not meant for consumption, the chef could see the obvious 2 inch veins of fat between the meat before cooking it. I wouldn’t have served that to my dog. He would have choked on the gristle. The Mac n cheese is usually great, but this time they were super heavy handed with the truffle seasoning on top and it overpowered the whole dish, it was not edible, I could only eat the part near the bottom. Overall I give 1 star for the pretzels and take away 2 for service and 2 for that horrendous steak. $65 and I’m still starving. I couldn’t leave fast enough. We never have to wonder why this place we thought we like is always empty in LaCenterra. We certainly will not be back when there are dozens of other options that are better within walking distance. The staff seemed to care more about talking to their friends than helping the people in the restaurant. Where was this hero manager you speak of? We never saw anyone that seemed to be in charge or even seemed to care...
Read moreI rarely write reviews, however, my experience tonight was very upsetting. Me and my wife went to eat here on a Thursday night at around 8:00 P.M. When we got there, it wasn’t busy as there was only a couple eating outside and a couple and a group of people eating inside. We were greeted by the hostess who showed us to our table which was located at a corner of the restaurant. Our table was visible from the bar area of the restaurant.
After receiving our menus, me and wife took about five minutes to decide on our orders. However after five minutes, our waiter still had not greeted us, let alone take a beverage order.
I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt and waited a bit longer for our waiter to come to us. We sat at the table for twenty more minutes and we still had no waiter or even another staff member attend to us. The only time we had spoken with a staff member was when the hostess first sat us to our table.
At that point, the couple that was eating inside was finished with their meal and their waitress gave them their check. While the waitress was at the couple’s table, which was located a few feet from ours, I attempted to get her attention, however, I was ignored. The couple then left their table and the waitress came back to the table to clean it. When the waitress came back, I was able to get her attention. I asked her who our waiter was because we had been waiting for about thirty minutes. She replied that his name was Eric and asked us if she would like to get him for us. Mind you, we had not even spoken to anyone other than the hostess. My wife and I decided not to wait because if it took almost thirty minutes to even have someone attend to us, who knows how long our order would take. I told the waitress to not worry about it and my wife and I left.
I understand if the restaurant was serving a lot of customers and if the staff had a lot on their plate, however, as mentioned earlier, there were only two tables with couples and one table with a group of people inside.
What made it worse was while we were waiting for our waiter, we saw several of the staff members conversing with one another at the bar area.
I am not writing this to be rude, however, I would like for management to be aware that small gestures, good or bad, can leave a lasting impression on their customers.
I don’t think any person would’ve been alright with that kind of experience and I hope no one else has to...
Read moreI am 4 days out of hip replacement surgery and wanted to take my husband and father of my children, to dinner and upon recommendation from this site, decided upon Dish Society in Cinco Ranch. I made reservations yesterday and was very excited. Boy, was that a mistake. My sister went in to make sure our seats were ready so that I could go straight to the table with my walker. The stares and whispers started there. A light skinned woman with an afro and bohemian styled clothing isn't unheard of in a diverse place like Katy, however, the guests and servers apparently thought otherwise. I had no idea what had taken place as I rolled and scooted into the restaurant. As I sat down, my 16 year old son, who is also a server, noticed a particular table staring and whispering, however I told him to be the bigger person as we are paying customers just like everyone else. We proceeded to look at the menu and watch 3-4 other parties get seated. Server after server passed our table by. We couldn't be missed because we were seated right in the middle of all the other parties which happened to consist of only white guests. After 25 minutes of observing others stare and whisper as well as no server ever stopping at our table, even after I attempted to get a server's attention by saying "excuse me" rather loudly, my family decided to leave as it seemed that our business wasn't wanted. As soon as my son placed my walker for me, an African American server approached our table to see what was wrong, a young white gentleman chided my son and all hell broke loose as my husband jumped in to protect our child. The white gentleman appeared to be with his grandparents and the grandfather chided my husband and threatened police and legal action. While I was outside trying to calm my husband and my 16 year old, and console my 7 year old a manager brought me a $100 gift card. This action, to me, means that not only do the servers and managers know that what took place was wrong it also showed that this is not a first for the restaurant. What is going on where people can not eat, in peace, at a restaurant of their choice no matter their ethnic or racial background? Needless to say, I'll never taste the deliciousness of Dish Society's food...but on a positive note, I have a pretty cool gift for my...
