First off let me say I'm a huge fan of the restaurant. I was here this weekend for my birthday and think I had about 6 dozen oysters from there. My coworker recommended it, and after hearing how much I liked it, she wanted me to pick out a hat for my birthday so I did. As I went to check out, the register system went down with the person in front of me. Want to be clear, not upset about that at all, not their fault at all. What I am mad about is how rude the woman was to me specifically. She was kind and apologetic to the couple in front of me, but i tried to be helpful with a solution by asking if the restaurant could ring up stuff when the shop register was down, she goes "NO" like I was an idiot for even asking. She goes back to being apologetic to the couple and says there's nothing she can do and offers to hold their stuff behind the counter. As I approached she said "THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO". I then explained that I was hoping she could hold the hat behind the counter because it was the last in the color. I was equally inconvenienced as the couple and even suggested something she could do to help the situation she was in, but she clearly decided I was someone who she could be rude to because she was stressed. Would have just not gotten the hat after that lovely treatment but it was supposed to be a gift, so I checked back a few hours later as i was leaving OBX, and she told me she had been on the phone since I had left trying to fix it in an equally friendly tone as before, so I just left without it. In her defense she yelled sorry a couple as i walked out (but it could have been to the other person who was checking back, not sure after the first encounter if she was actually apologizing to me then) but too little too late. Not sure what it was about me that made her decide I don't deserve basic customer service or human decency like the other customers their understandable issue was affecting, but it was very disappointing after adoring the restaurant so much. Good food, but I would stay away...
Read moreMy daughter and I tried to walk in to awful Arthur’s beach shop.We both have medical reasons for not being able to wear a mask. Understanding there is a mask mandate, We walked in and a lady spoke up and said we needed masks. I told her we can’t wear them for medical reasons. She said you have to wear a mask or leave. I tried to explain that in the the mask mandate, we are the exemption. We walked out and I looked up the mandate, read it and walked back in to show her, she said I don’t care, you need a mask. Before leaving I did mention that legally she cannot refuse service for medical reasons, she still told us to leave. Very disappointed in this service. Unacceptable!!! Will never spend another dollar at any of these...
Read moreI’m extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this shop. While visiting, woman at the register was blatantly rude to my veteran husband and his service dog. We stopped by for some ice and a drink with service dog close to my side. Not only was her tone disrespectful, but she also made inappropriate comments and seemed unwilling to accommodate or even acknowledge the rights and needs of a service animal and its handler.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable anywhere, especially toward someone who has served our country and relies on a trained animal for assistance. Respect, courtesy, and basic understanding of the law regarding service dogs should be the minimum standard for any...
