I am thrilled that everyone else had such a great experience, but somehow I must have gone on all the wrong days, I suppose. We first arrived about a month ago after being rudely dealt with when we called asking for directions. My computer's hinges were messed up and it was cracking my display. The first week communication was great, they contacted me every time a new part came up, updated me all the time. However, I had to listen to a lot of explaining and re-explaining of everything - as someone who knows a decent amount about computers, this was very degrading. Around a week in we decide to just get a new computer and swap harddrives. They call me on the 19th to let me know that a new part has popped up and they can fix the old one, I tell them to go ahead with the harddrive switch. And then nothing. I called when I returned from vacation on the 29th, we called at least 3 times after that, no response. I came in today with my mother, and we were both upset, but he just kept insisting he had called and even pulled his phone out as evidence. When I showed him my phone had gotten none of these calls, he didn't seem to care. He then argued with me when I told him I did not want Windows 10. In the end, he took some charges off our bill, but made himself seem like a saint for doing so when any decent business would have done it out of apology. Wouldn't stop talking about how busy they were and how awesome that was. Overall this entire experience was humiliating, and I will have no problem driving to Virginia to have my electronics looked at to avoid having to...
Read moreI just had the most awesome experience! I called Outer Banks Computer Repair because I had used them before for phone and computer problems in the past and they were so nice. Tim answered the phone. I asked if their business had people who came to homes to help with installatiion of new printers. He said they did not, but he asked me if I was close to the computer and printer, and as luck would have it, I was sitting in front of them both. He took the time to walk me through the process of getting rid of the current installation of my printer to my computer (I told him that my sister and I had tried to install the printer and it was not working properly, so I had to uninstall my printer. He walked me through that process). He then took the time to guide me through the process of reinstalling the printer so that it was connected CORRECTLY to my computer. It took a long time, because I am not too good with computers, directions, etc. He was patient and kind and by the time we were finished, my printer was installed on my computer. He even took the time to make sure my new printer worked properly. I pulled up what I had been trying to print, and it works perfectly!
He spent about 45 minutes to help me do this. It was around closing time, so I was not sure anyone would answer at all. I told him that I would like to pay him for helping me, but he refused any money. I was impressed when I had taken other things to be repaired there, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect that someone would take the time to help me do this on the...
Read moreAs a parent, the inability to communicate with your teenage child while they are away is a scary thought. During beach week, my daughter dropped her iPhone in water. She first brought her iPhone to a different repair shop nearby and they wanted to charge her $90 just to open the phone up to see if there is water inside. This $90 did NOT include any effort to dry the iPhone and see if it will turn on. Call me crazy, but we just told him she dropped the iPhone in water - no need to pay for confirmation of something we already knew.
Immediately, I found Outerbanks, spoke to Tim and had my daughter head over to his shop. He got on the phone with me to explain the process of drying out the iphone (they have the only dehydrator in the area) with full transparency on cost, including labor plus any necessary parts (if any). Tim called me the next day and explained that the motherboard was damaged and the iPhone is not likely to be fixed. He gave me recommendations on dealing with insurance from my carrier for a new replacement. He only charged half of what he quoted originally and offered my daughter a loaner iPhone (for a small fee) so we can still be in touch . We just need to ship it back to the store when she arrives home.
Tim was very helpful and eased a stressful situation. He understood that my daughter needed a phone so she can have a form of communication, but most importantly, he did not take advantage of a young person or worried mom.
I highly recommend Outerbanks and wish all businesses can be this ethical and honest. Thank you Tim for...
