Books-A-Million — Local services in Kingsport

I hardly ever shop at BAM but this past Christmas I went by there for my mom to purchase Christmas books for the kids in the family. That part was great! They had plenty of copies of what I needed because I was looking to buy 6 copies of said book. However, the checkout experience was not very pleasant. After spending $70 on books I was basically tricked into signing up for a magazine subscription. So anybody shopping there that this hasn’t happened to please BEWARE! I’m sure the employees are trained to be dishonestly signing people up for these magazines so I’m not blaming them but they will tell you they are free trials and you will get $10 coupon if you pick 3 magazines, they give you a card that in the tiny print tells you that after your 2 month trial they will charge the debit card used during transaction. I’m sure that covers their butts when people find out about being charged for these “free” magazines so I just want to warn people from the customer’s point of view. I understand business and up selling but this is just dishonesty. They have definitely prevented me ever going there again considering I was not even using my own debit, I was using my moms who had sent me to pick up her items. I was very aggravated by this. My first time at Bays Mountain. Beautiful scenery driving up to the main parking. We arrive by 11:00 and had no trouble getting parking but it began to fill up very quickly after 12:00 I could see. There is a visitor center with wonderful information on simple wildlife. I was amazed to see that they have some outdoor exhibits with wildlife such as Fox, bobcat, wolves, and a couple of more. And of course it wouldn't be complete without a Herpetarium where we had a great presentation from a park ranger. There are lots of trails to hike, you can take a barge ride on the lake, or like me enjoy the just beautiful scenery that mother nature has given. Toilet in the women’s bathroom is broken and won’t flush, there’s a sign that says to hold down until it flushes. I tried and it would not flush. Sign says to go get an employee to flush it for you if you can’t. I can’t tell you how humiliating it is to go get an employee to come look at the urine you left in the toilet. This is unacceptable and should be fixed asap. Also, they tore the coffee shop Joe Muggs out. I’ve had issues with this Bookstore many times before, on top of that they spam you at checkout wanting you to sign up for magazine subscriptions and their membership card.
