I’ve recently started getting into comics, and I feel like it would have taken me months to figure out what Brian and Gio walked me though over TWO HOURS. How to find what I’m looking for? Subscribe to series I love? Get involved in the community? Protect my purchases? The rewards program? Check, check, check, check, and CHECK. I was literally so excited walking into the store, and I left with my expectations completely blown out of the water based on my interactions with the employees alone.
I love how the subscription service is both free, flexible, and gives each subscriber extra reward benefits. Speaking of rewards, the system these guys have is way more dynamic than I would have ever imagined – they even have their own app! I still feel like there’s more to figure out, but I’ve at least started earning my digital stamps towards a $15 coupon, and I have one “Issue Buck” as well. This is on top of the in-store credit you can gain when you make certain purchases.
Here are some other experience highlights:
A comic cover artist & instructor at the Florida Film Academy (Peter Smith) was there at the same time as us, and it was so great getting to know him and seeing some of his work firsthand. You could tell based off of his interactions with the staff that my experience wasn’t just a one-off. They really work hard to foster and maintain such a close-knit and positive community between the shop and its regulars.
When I couldn’t find any variant covers of the comic I was purchasing, Brian searched and called multiple locations to find me 4/5 variants I was looking for! It honestly saved us so much time and grief haha. And while they could have had the issues shipped to this store, I was able to swing by and pick them up the next day at a different location nearby.
Thoughts on the store/location itself:
Thank goodness for the excessive amount of parking. It was super stress-free finding and getting into this spot. Once you walk in, it’s hard not to be shocked by the sheer volume of comics, even in comparison to a few of their other locations. I found everything I was looking for and more! There’s also a section that’s definitely for events and tournaments, but I didn’t get to spend much time on it...
Read moreI love the store. But the employees should focus on their job of serving customers. I was there a few minutes ago and there was a checkout line of six or seven people waiting to pay, while there were a couple of more employees outside the cashier area talking between them no matter that there were costumers waiting to pay and leave. Employees were talking to each other They don't were talk to other customers . I am not saying that the employees are not friendly, they are friendly, perhaps extremely friendly for my taste. They should have a policy of talking to each other As long as there are no customers, once the site is full of people, they should focus on serving customers instead of talking to each other. because is not the first time that I notice this in the Kissimmee store. so they should focus on customer service and quality, in addition to the fact that the place has very poor phone reception, no phones or the internet reception inside the store, it doesn't work, I wanted to check an app before buying an item and I couldn't because the connection is terrible, it should also focus on improving the operation of connecting or free wifi inside the store. the employees In the time they have free they should focus on organizing the store in a way that makes it easier for customers to find what they are Looking for. organize products by different companies. for example I'm just a fan of DC Comics and instead having a single specific area with all the DC comics products, they are distributed throughout the entire store mixed with everything from Marvel for example, which makes it more difficult to locate the specific merchandise that you are looking for.. sorry for my complaints and I hope ut help to improve customer service if they really...
Read moreI've been a frequent customer of Coliseum of Comics, even when they were located in downtown Kissimmee in a small corner shop. Now, however, the quality of customer service has substantially decreased and now the employees are more worried about talking amongst themselves and flirting with frequent female customers not to mention they rip you off for any back issues even if they were released only a month ago. Even for issue #43 of Saga that initially costs only 25 cents, they gouged the price to $4.50 as soon as 44 came out. At Mike's comics or Gods and Monsters, you can find back issues on the shelves for the same price they initially costs.
I asked an employee recently to look into a back issue and she looked at me as if it was beneath her. Not only in the Kissimmee location but at their Millenia location as well where four employees were behind the counter and could not even be bothered to say hello or asked if I needed assistance until I was on my way out and had put the comics I was going to purchase back in the shelves.
If you want good customer service, just go to Gods and Monsters in Orlando where they have a good selection of comic books and even a bar in case you want to relax and have a brew. By the way, if you do buy something at coliseum of Comics, look at your receipts. If your name is not on it, you get a free stamp on your stamp card. The least they can do for being terrible...
