I'm deeply saddened to write this review. I've been an avid outdoorsmen, Bass Angler, Hunter, shooter for over 3 decades. I spend, well, I don't really want to think about what I spend on outdoor, hunting, fishing, and shooting gear and equipment. I was soooo excited when I heard Cabela's was opening a store in Omaha. I would bring my kids there to look at all the animal mounts, I would always end up buying quite a bit. Went to the store on 09-17-2015 to buy a shotgun. Mike was very helpful, started me on some initial paperwork and I was told to have a seat and someone would be "right with me" I had a seat, excited about my new purchase. That was at 7:20 PM. At 7:44 PM, I heard my name called, I was ready to START filling out paperwork. In between 7:20 and 7:44, two employees processed the paperwork for 1 gun. I completed the online paperwork and paid for the gun. It was now 8:00PM. They said they needed a manager to come double check the paperwork...which is absolutely redundant since it took two guys to process my paperwork and they double checked everything. I asked if this was a Cabela's policy or an ATF policy, the employee actually answered "I think maybe a little bit of both" Terrible answer. It's either yes or no, not a little bit. They paged "Bob" the manager at 8:00 PM. They said he was finishing up and would be over in a minute or two. One of the employees paged "Bob" two more times, to no response. The employee apologized and said "he must be on the other side of the store" (Because that's really efficient.) Bob finally made his way over at 8:13PM. 13 minutes AFTER I paid for my shotgun, he casually asks me "how you doin?" Never once did he apologize for making me wait on HIM for 13 minutes. After a few minutes of him looking over the paperwork, he said "you are good to go" So from the time I said "I'll buy this" to the time I left, it was over an hour. I can understand if they were busy. But the store was borderline empty. That has to be the most inefficient process ever. It's like they went to a car dealership to take notes. I can go to Scheel's, where they have a manager always in the same area, and get in and out of there in 1/4 of the time. But it was the attitude of Bob, who acted like he was doing me a favor by coming over to triple check my paperwork, that has me seriously thinking I won't be purchasing from Cabela's anytime soon. I probably spend 15-20K a year, which I know is a drop in the bucket to them, but it'll be going to Canfield's, Scheel's,...

Read moreI really really try to like cabelas. They sponsor some of our fishing events so I feel I owe loyalty to them. They DO have great products...however, this specific location is a bust. As others have said, the gun counter is terrible. The boot department is bad, the archery department is sad, and it opens at 9am.
Gun counter: I've been standing there literally ready to buy a gun before. There was 1 person at the counter plus me, there were 5 guys working behind the counter. They were all chatting so I asked for help, they told me they'd be with me soon and went back to chatting. Great policy. The other guy wasn't helped yet either. We both made frustrated remarks and walked out - gunless.
The boot department: I've been in 4 times to buy boots, only was successful once. That was bc I really wanted a cabelas brand of boot and stood waiting to be helped (these boots, like many others, are kept in back) for over 30 minutes. Not bc the ONE sales guy was helping anyone else, but bc he was nowhere to be seen. It has been the same with every visit.
Archery department: I haven't dealt with the reps there, but they never have what I'm looking for.
9 am open: What can I say, it's just not conducive of hunters to go shopping at 9am? Example: it's snowing here right now. All the hunters are like "wheeeeee" and came to cabelas bc they have off work. I've seen more than 20 vehicles drive up (some of which walked all the way up to the door) and leave bc they're closed. I've been here maybe 10 minutes. Even if it weren't a snow day, it'd be nice if we need something the morning of a hunt/fish to be able to grab it at 6-7am before the hunting/fishing starts.
This is just my 2 cents of course, this store has great products, but does not seem interested AT ALL in providing a good service to the customers. Please overhaul this place so I can support a nebraskan...
