Zero stars Fish enthusiasts, please read…and don’t shop here!! Support fish stores that care for the animals they make millions on 🙏🏽 Last week I visited this location and ended up leaving feeling sick to my stomach. While browsing the community tanks I happened upon a 20 or 30 gallon tank with at least 60 white skirt tetras. That in and of itself is bad, however, for some strange reason there were 4 female betta fish fighting for their lives inside the same tank. Along with 4 more being acclimated. I ended up buying 3 of the bettas that seemed to be in the roughest shape…just to give them a fighting chance at life. I asked the associates why they would choose to house bettas with known fin nipping fish and I was told they were ordered to do by corporate. This confuses me because no other petco location does this. I’ve been to Tacoma stores, puyallup, Lakewood, federal way, etc. and I’ve never seen females bettas 1) in the same tank together and 2) inside an overpopulated tank with fish that will slowly eat away at them. I understand bettas are common and mass bred. I understand very many pass away in the little cups I normally see them in at petco locations. However, to house them this way is animal cruelty. If this really is an order from corporate I would love to be put in contact with the person in charge of these decisions. It would truly be more humane to flush these fish, rather than let them slowly be tortured to death. The associates were nice enough to give me half off on the bettas, considering one was completely shredded and near death. The others were in better shape but still had chunks missing from their fins. Each betta was given their own fully cycled and planted 5 gallon tank, along with medications to repair the damaged tissues. The betta that was near death unfortunately passed after a few hours. She was beyond saving…all she did was rest and come up for air a few times before she passed away. At least she got to pass in peace. The other bettas are still alive and getting stronger everyday. Soon they will join more female bettas in an appropriate, densely planted 40g betta sorority tank and live out their days in peaceful harmony. Hopefully the stress of this stores negligent actions won’t cut their life too short. Do better petco. This is...
Read moreWe took our three Norwich Terriers in to be groomed at the Petco in Lacey Washington, and was shocked at the horrible job that they did. After we dropped them off, we were called about 15 minutes later and told that one of our dogs hair was matted and that they would need to cut it a little lower than in the past. When we picked them up, their bodies had been completely shaven. The backs of their necks were shaved so low that the skin was visible and red. It was also apparent that one of the dogs had be nicked pretty bad by the clippers cutting to close. The groomer(s) made no attempt to groom them. They just shaved all three of them which required no grooming skills. All three of our boys have different types of hair so they should not have been groomed in the same way. It clearly obvious that the groomer got lazy and did a rush job. Nor did the groomer show a shred of common sense by shaving our boys. I asked them a simple question which was what pet owner wants their pet shaved the month of January in Washington State. They had no answer for that other than to go back to the matting issue. Which is hard to believe because we have been taking our dogs there to be groomed for three years. We never once in the past received a call saying that their hair was matted. This was an excuse used only to justify shaving our dogs. Now we have a situation where our dogs have to go through the two coldest months of winter without their winter coats. We did speak to the manager and head groomer of the store, and to their credit they were very understanding of our complaint and have taken measures to satisfy our concerns. They also took measures to ensure that this never happens to anyone else’s pet. We were very happy with their efforts to make this right for us. Had the manager and head groomer not made the effort to adequately address our complaint, we would have never gone back to Petco for any reason. Please make sure that the groomer tells you exactly how they will groom your pet, and what they will look like after the grooming. It’s also a good idea to show them a photo of how you would like for your pet to look after they have...

Normally we don’t have any issues with anyone from this store. However tonight was as different story.
2 weeks ago we purchased 1/3 Jumbo Goldfish that the store had on sale for 50% off due to the fact that they were relinquishes to the store. The employee working that night clarified it was in fact all 3 that were relinquished. We said we would be back for them.
We have been back many times during these past two weeks. We have 4 cats, 2 dogs, many reptiles, fish and a hamster so we frequent Lacey Petco quite often. Each time I checked if the other 2 gold fish were there. They were. I’ll add one had a missing eye so it was not hard to tell they were the same fish.
Tonight we decided to go back and purchase the other two fish. The cashier “Pearl” rang my husband up full price. He asked her if they were still 1/2 price due to being surrendered to the store like the other fish had been. She was quite rude and refused to even check. She lied and said she personally put those two goldfish in the tank 3 days ago. Completely untrue. We ended up paying full price because we wanted the fish and had they never been relinquished they would have been full price anyways. Fine and Dandy.
What’s unacceptable is Pearl took it upon herself to make derogatory comments about another employee whom I will not name, to protect his privacy. The things she assumed and said about him were disgusting and she should be fired. She chooses to talk publicly about someone in such a gross way in front of customers. Unprofessional to say the least. I’m very...
